Or just force an entrance exam. Should weed out those with fake/cheated matrics, each department could also set out some stuff you have to know in order to get in, e.g. Bsc CS basic python as a requirement (for/while loops, et.), nothing complex past being able to do a little bit of math, or write a piece of code to solve an equation etc. Should make it easier for the department, and easier for students to see if they really want to be in a course like that.

Not at those numbers no. If free education is implemented the vast majority of funds will come from the SA taxpayer, no two ways about it. Even if we had a high proportion of foreign students like the US (5% of the student body) it still wouldn't be anywhere near enough.
 
I'm not too concerned with the lost income from 90 foreign students. What's more concerning is the number of foreign academics that have likely crossed SA universities off their list of potential employers, and the number of SA academics that have quit, or are now open to moving abroad, and the loss of far more than 90 foreign students in the near and long term future (due to current events, and the inevitable attrition of world class lecturers).

Not to mention anyone of those students immediate family and friends knowing why they aren't going anymore and them then telling their family and friends, etc etc. I play games with Americans and they don't hold this country in any kind of regard anymore. They recount the FMF idiots and violence very well. But hey, absolute fools are saying it's all good and they won't be missed so carry on deeper into the Rest of Africa pit.

Actually the best things in life are free. You were duped by the neo liberals into believing that you have to pay for some thing in order to be good. German has one of the best higher free education.

I think you lot are getting the wrong end of the stick AGAIN. Either that or you guys have serious comprehension issues. No one said that there is no positive outcome from the students coming here. Merely that you are exaggerating the effects of 90 foreigners choosing not to attend at UCT. The university is not going to fold. It is not going to fill for financial rescue. Certainly not over this non issue. Perhaps over other things.

Lastly, for your friends that do not think much of SA, I also don't think much of USA. So bloody what at the end of the day?

I am sorry but I was under the impression that people on this forum are of sufficient intelligence to understand what I mean by "free". Also if you learn to read in context you would have realized sooner that your clarification is irrelevant because I was replying to someone who suggested that "free education" is not good. It that context it was obvious what "free" meant.

This forum was under the impression that you don't understand what free means, at least that is what I have gathered as the consensus among those discoursing with you. (just from readings threads wherein you have posted)

And he was highlighting the fact that it is not truly free but subsidized and the people subsidizing cannot afford to subsidize the system as they are already pressed subsidizing other things.

Sure that is a valid debate that can be had. The problem is that people on this forum are arguing from ideological positions rather than economic or logical ones. The idea of free infuriates neo liberals.
