LOL you have to laugh at that contradiction.

We have to blame ourselves cause we don't let our money speak. If more people bought Nexus phones the OEM's would have had a better intensive to sell unlocked phones instead of locking em for OEM's. After all they just doing what everyone does, following the money.

I did what the majority of people on earth do which is went with what my carriers had available on a subsidized contract at a monthly price that I could afford. I did not have r8000 to drop on a phone so that I could breathe the untainted air of pure Android. If Google had negotiated with real carriers in this country to stock the Nexus it would be a different story - but even then I'm not a premium handset kind of guy. I have a Galaxy S which is fine but aging. It's what I can afford. So yes it's Google's failure for thinking they could have their cake and eat it.

It is, here I find iOS wins hands down. Piracy on iPhone is sooooooooo much easier than on Android.

Installious is all you need to get pirated games on iOS.

On Android I have to Google, search forums and whatnot till I get an apk that actually downloads and is not met with (Content removed) banner, copy onto my device and hope it plays, if it doesn't the whole process start afresh.

Which is kind of ironic since the Play Store whips the App store, esp in this country.

Fair enough I guess - I pay for my apps so I'm not in a position to comment on the hoops people are made to jump through yo get their content for free.

I honestly stated in another thread that I enjoy discussing/arguing about different OSs as it helps me learn about them. I really do look out for reasons to eventually move across from Symbian to another OS (partly because I'll eventually have no choice) but very few are ever shown.

For example now, when someone says things like this I honestly question whether Android is truly as superior to Symbian as some believe. It is my understanding that the new Symbians can do most of this. I know USB-on-the-go was first released on the N8 (allowing you to plug in and use thumb drives, use a mouse etc) as well as the HDMi output. And the 808 will have DLNA support. All right out of the box.

But anyway, as you were.

Try it, probably the best way to go about learning a bit more.
No idea if it can be done with Ios or windows mobile though.

http://bluestacks.com/ would be better as it lets you run Android apps in Windows.

Anycase I am not here to convince people to run whatever OS, we are grown up enough to make our own decisions, the only thing I do dislike is when people spread incorrect information about things they have no clue about.

Anyway, still quite some time before he has to worry about the demise of Symbian.

Jokes aside- I still think you have some time left with Symbian. Nokia only look at ending support in 2016 at the earliest.

But out of curiosity to everyone else- is OEM support really that crucial to the phone you buy? Given that a smartphone's lifespan is much shorter than other tech products, do you really care if Samsung stops support for your 3 year old phone?

I might give that a try some time. Thanks. Although I suppose it does only demo the apps and software and not the hardware, so you're still in the dark about the camera, HDMi outputs, etc.

I fully agree about incorrect information which is probably why a lot of the regurgitation that is thrown around about Symbian irks me :)

I know you addressed that at everyone else but that is precisely the logic I use. People ask me how I can consider the 808 when Nokia has killed the OS but my view is it is only going to need to meet my needs for two years, which I'm pretty certain it will do, hence me not being worried. The fact the 2016 time frame outlasts this is a bonus.

By the time support ends your phone will be in the trash or the back of a cupboard somewhere.

Get what you like, use it.

Problem is not the device or even the OS capabilities for me. When I look at the device I use it boils down to apps/development and future of apps on that platform. Both Android and iOS has a proven track record when it comes to this. So if I have to pick a phone today it will be one of those 2.

Windows Phone might still come up but its uncertain when it will peak or even if.
Blackberry and Symbian for that matter is on the decline so you can see most developers jumping ship.

In short for me its all about the apps, OS second, device last.

Yes I know its personal opinion and other people can see it totally different, thats there choice as we are not forced into one mind set.
