Forum Pay It Forward Idea
Been speaking to Cele this morning and I dont know if you guys know this but he is a Web Design and IT specialist. It go me to thinking how much talent we have collectively on this forum.
It also got me to thinking how great it would be if we could pass business to each other and that way all help each other.
So what I am suggesting is a sub Forum called "Pay it Forward"
In it, people post a thread outlining what their talents are. They head their thread with that Talent. So if you are a graphic designer, your Thread Header would be "Graphic Designer". If you run a business that binds books, your header is "Book Binding"
In the thread you describe what you do an the areas you can cover.
The idea is not to advertise you businesses, but to share what you can do. No pricing should be posted on the threads as this would just be blatant manipulation.
People who want to use your services/talents can then PM you and the contact is made.
In the same sub Forum, people can ask for help. They would head their thread "Wanted: Graphic Designer" and in the thread describe the service they need. Again, no mention of money - that stays offline!
It is I feel a fast and efficient way to network our collective talents and it also gives us a good indicator of where our strengths are when we need to call on people for help with forum stuff.

THIS IS JUST A SUGGESTION. (again, my neck out having said never again)

what do you think?

Seems like a great idea.

I just wonder what happened to a similar but different one that I think RPM was busy with, you know the Job Adverts one?

/me sits and wonders, not thinks

(Aargh now you got me doing it as well)

Great idea, out of the 5200 user of this forum, their is alot of talent that can use each each other in away and also put minds together to solve problems they might come across.

Great idea, but won't it be difficult to search through threads with 5000 posts? Would be better to use some free php job/freelance script out there for doing this, or have one of the talented members write one.

or you could just use the search facility and see what that spits out - the idea here is simplicity

Hi folks

I have just read the thread and we can start it rather easily. Let me just make certain I understand it correctly. People post their specialties in a certain forum, and others can then use them should they need their specific skills. Maybe a forum for skills and a sub forum for positions offered?

Please give your comments after which we will open these forums.

Regards,

RPM

Seems like a good idea. We just need to set some basic rules as to how moderation would be executed in those specific forums so that people know what goes and what not. But I like the idea in principle.

:)

Yep...Good idea ;-)

I'll 2nd it :-)

Have a look at the BaanBoard index. They created a heading for the Baan Job Market, and then two forums: Recruiters & Seekers. Maybe the same here? Post your details in Seekers, and advertise jobs in Recruiters.

@adlo
not quite the same thing...
the other idea was a jobnet type thing.
This is skills networking.
for example, i have to build a small applet fro my website - and I'm clueless.
I go to the Pay it Forward thread and look for a web design skillset. Aaah - there Celemasiko. PM him adsk him if he can do what I need and at what price. Cele agrees, I pass business to him.
Later on, someone has an issue with lets say needing some business cards designed and printed..voila, theres a forumee who can help, who can benefit and so it keeps getting paid forward..... get it?

Would each thread be closed? Because if someone gets some bad service then there could be problems with what is posted in responce - but people need to know what the service is like, but if they hear how someone has been completely messed around there will be problems with members going against each other

my 2 cents

yup, you post your skillset and the thread is closed.
any discussion then is pushed into off topic.
i doubt that anyone would be so stupid as to mess around a bunch of "vociferous" consumer activists though LOL
changes to the skillset? am i right that the original author can still edit their post?

would it? you are assuming that eveyone is going to have issue with each other?
its simple. read the skillset, PM the person whose services suit you, make contact, do deal.
want services, post thread, wait for PM's
pissed off with service received? deal with it like grown ups privately.

No - I am thinking that if someone has a bad experience they will want to let everyone know if there problem isn't resolved

If they had good service etc I am sure they would want to let everyone know

But wait .... here's an idea ... you keep the rating sytem open - then you can vote for a score out 5 - mind you that could be a bit mean - but still, no harsh words :p
