Forum Pay It Forward Idea

IMO any middle man who makes a commision off of the placement/contract/work may not post irrespective of what they call themselves.
Agreed. They are also notorious for poor service and CV collection (for their DB).

To be clearer

the idea is not seeks job, seeks employee - that would be something different - that would be a recruitment database.
this is a skills network where we can pass work off to each other.
for example, my first three posts would be
1. WANTED: Graphic Designer/Busines Card Fundi
need new cards and letterheads designed
2. WANTED: Web Designer/Applet Fundi
need simple password authentication for my website
3. Building and Construction Manager
skill description
areas covered

the idea is that we network our resources.
no adverts from agencies, no adverts from companies looking to avoid agencies. This is for bits of work, not employment

Another example: My son in Law needs a lawyer's advise for his claim against the MVA after his car accident...

exactly!

The inverse of sticking your neck out is burying it in the sand, and we know what happens to ostriches

without getting into the technical political descriptions of this - its simply a great idea :) - using our Collective Ability to 'do stuff' - for ourselves.
After all, we've been doing stuff collectively for the community at large
for a while now (for instance the ICASA and other battles)

The 'community' as a phrase has tended to get hijacked to refer to
something other than 'us' - something other than you and me - but just to
steal the phrase back - WE are the Community. Now it's time to reap the
many benefits of 'collective effort' - without any politics or ideology to
slow it down.

'The Community' is US.

(Just to show you just how different the world can be when everyone
decides to help each other out, without asking for anything in return - and
as an example of collective benefits in action - have a look at a worldwide
free accomodation network I ran across: http://www.hospitalityclub.org/

Thanks for the heads up - that may come in very handy when I'm over in the UK later this year, if things go sour on the job front and I end up working with a bunch of Chavs at Tescos. I'm sure there may be a few "crazies" amongst some of the people, but hopefully that would become apparent quickly !

As for this thread, it's a great idea - there's just so much diverse talent here, artists, programmers, writers, laywers, doctors, programmers - you name it.

Forums open. With this one I think we will learn as we go along...

Yay RPM thats awesome! thank you. Just a small request to keep things simple - do you think we could call the skills forum Pay It Forward? That way we wont get CV's posted in threads, just simple requests for work and a simple synopsis of what people are good at doing and can do for others....just a thought

Hi Peapod

While we are at it we might want to use this as a place where companies can also inform members about vacancies. Comments?

Regards,

RPM

Hmmm, I think the Skills Networking forum will be perfect as is, however [IMO] employment opportunities i.e. both permanent/contract job postings should stay in the "Recruiters" forum - I'd suggest renaming that forum to
"Employment Opportunities: Permanent & Contract"

What does everyone else think?
Done...

I can sort of go along with this.

*BUT* at the back of my mind is my father's words: do NOT do business with (a) your neighbour (b) your friends (c) your family. There be dragons...

I would suggest that:

(a) MyADSL states clearly that it has no stake in this other than providing a free messaging/advertising/contact service.
(b) "Caveat emptor" - Let the buyer beware. This whole thing can become an absolute war with insults and accusatons being thrown around (been there, done that and I don't have a T-shirt!) Therefore, once initial contact has been made, everything *MOVES OFF-FORUM, OFF_MyADSL* You sort out your problems outside of this forum - completely outside!
(c) No prices should be mentioned here.

@ ic and RPM
whoa - lets not overcomplicate it - we can always change it later and do a big prune/move/copy.
Lets see how it goes for a few weeks thenmake a decision...
