found a dead cat in the road

so basically there is just a very high risk that cats will wander off and either get killed in the street or taken back to the SPCA by irate home owners?

If I catch a cat on my property, collar or no collar... it is going straight back to the SPCA. I am highly allergic to them and do not appreciate having to put up with them just for the sake of the neighbour who will not take the time to train them or curb them properly.

I do think they are mostly pleasant animals, but I cannot risk a sinus infection as a result of a sneezing attack and the eyes watering and nose running. It has happened far too often already. If I am going to a friend's house at least I can enquire beforehand and take some antihistamine.

Yes it's a 4 legged pest that loves wandering around other peoples property thus making a nuisance for other people but the owner.

Yes they are hardcore brutal murderers of guinea-pigs.

You try to explain to a kid why some one else's pet came into my property and nuked my guinea-pigs?

If my guinea-pigs were to escape and trash your vegetable garden will you be happy?

Oh and don't pull the but what about birds story. it will be discussed the day a cat can travel through the air on it's own.

Is a cat's life worth more because it is domesticated?
I`ve unintentionally killed at least 10 doves, and 2 meerkats while driving. Didn't stop to bury them.
 
I had a cat run in under my car at night... I hit it, but when I looked in the rear-view, it ran away.

Kinda hard to do anything about it then, but it's still a sucky feeling. :(
 
I had an incident a few years ago where I was driving late at night and a cat darted out in front of me. Didn't even have time to brake. :( Poor cat was mangled something awful but was still barely alive. There was a complex where I think it came from but no guardhouse just an intercom for each house. I couldn't exactly ring up each house at 2am asking whether they are the owner of a black cat so I did what I thought best and held and stroked the poor thing for about 10 minutes until it died in my arms. I then left it at the intercom.

Felt really awful about it. :(

What made me think was that someone had run this cat over, and probably knew that they had hit an animal, but either decided not to stop, or did stop and just left if there. It must have just happened because the cat was still warm. It must be heartbreaking enough to have your pet run over, but to wake up the next morning and see it carved into bits from all the cars which have ridden over it throughout the night must make it much worse.

I was wondering what you all feel about this: whether you would just leave it and drive on or stop and knock on someones door to try find who it belongs to.

You tend to find dead cats in roads... go figure
 
you did the right thing. too many people drive by :( very cruel. I've come across dead pigeons too often, poor things. I usually take them and bury them in the park. All life deserves respect, if you hit something and it doesn't have a collar, take it to the nearest vet for treatment, leave your contact details etc
