Found my lost phone on gumtree

Hi,

So I lost my iphone clubbing a few days and it was switched off when tried to calling it after I noticed it was missing. So I've been stalking gumtree for a few days hoping it would appear and I think it has. If I can confirm its my phone, can I go to the police have them retrieve the phone?
 
meet the person who wants to sell it take the phone and give him a moerse klap if he wants to give you attitude
 
As an experiment, take it up with the police and maybe record your interaction somehow.. Curious to see how they handle this. Obviously have a very very low level of expectation for our SAPS
 
might take a couple of years or so to "investigate" though.....:whistle:
 
At OP: If you're in JHB - get hold of eg2505 and see if he's nearby you and able to go with you when you confront the perp. He's amenable like that.
 
I'm in ct. Will go talk to the police and see what they say then post here. On initial investigation from the guys number and Facebook he seems to deal in stolen phones so hoping cops would do something
 
My own experience is that the police want a case number. They also want proof of ownership - so a serial number, or similar.

I had a laptop stolen that I found for sale on gumtree. Laptops was unique - extremely customized - i had upgraded the screen, ram, cpu and hdd -> ssd, so I knew it was mine. Police were useless. (Rondebosch/ Cape Town).
 
I know of a person that went to the cops after her iPhone was stolen. Find my iPhone was running and the cops accompanied her to the location to retrieve her phone. The bloak was arrested on the spot.

Is your find my iPhone active?

No its not. I lost it on Saturday and it was turned off since I noticed it was missing. It is currently icloud locked and I have had a sim swap so there is no way 'find my phone' could be working.

I also know a person by the name of Monique that was helped by the cops to retrieve her iPhone...
 
how easy will you be able to identify if really yours .
maybe public meeting spot with a few friends as backup?
 
The cops will not help. They are useless with this kind of thing. I have been to them twice about gumtree fraudsters and the police were just full of excuses and stories. The one time someone bought something from me with fake money. The other time someone deposited a stolen cheque to buy my old macbook pro and we had a planned meeting place and time at a place 500m from the cop station. I asked the cops to meet me there and arrest the person but they said they did not have any extra vans available. This is in Claremont, CT. Utterly useless!
 
If your phone was passkey locked, they should not be able to do anything with the phone, or am I wrong?
 
if you still have the box, or know the imei number either through an invoice, then ask the seller to give you the imei number somehow, so you can verify if its a fake or not.(just an excuse) if its the same imei as yours, then ask the to meet up for the sale, and maybe take the police or a few friends with etc

Good luck, had someone sell my stuff to a Cash Crusaders, took it up with the cops, still waiting 2 years now.
 
Phone him and be like -
