Tehran, Iran (CNN) -- The French Foreign Ministry condemned Tuesday the Iranian government's announcement that it was installing a new generation of centrifuges in its nuclear facilities, describing it as "a new wave of provocation" that flouts United Nations resolutions.

"This is yet another violation of the six Security Council resolutions and the 10 IAEA (International Atomic Energy Agency) Board of Governors resolutions," the ministry said in a statement. "On top of the announcements that it plans to triple the production of uranium enriched to 20%, it clearly confirms the suspicions of the IAEA and the international community regarding the purpose of a program without any credible civilian objective."

he French Foreign Ministry called on Tehran to "suspend its sensitive activities."

The ministry was reacting to the announcement earlier in the day by a spokesman for Iran's Foreign Ministry, who said the country is installing a new generation of centrifuges in its nuclear facilities. The announcement was reported by the state-run IRNA news agency.

The spokesman, Ramin Mehmanparast, "stressed the peaceful nature of Iran's nuclear activities, saying that all Iran's nuclear activities were carried out under the supervision of the International Atomic Energy Agency," IRNA said.

Iran has been carrying out covert tests of missiles capable of delivering a nuclear payload, in contravention of a U.N. resolution, British Foreign Secretary William Hague said last month.

It has also said it wants to enrich uranium to "levels far greater than is needed for peaceful nuclear energy," Hague said.

Iran's development of missile and nuclear fuel technology has led to U.N. sanctions and accusations from the United States that the clerical regime is trying to develop nuclear weapons.

Iran says it has a right to peaceful nuclear technology, but the IAEA has said it cannot verify whether the intent of Tehran's nuclear program remains peaceful.

I love this bit:

There's a small difference between ignoring 1 resolution, as opposed to 16. Even more so when the resolution in question is a whitewash by African and Arab nations happy to keep madmen like Gaddafi in power.

Nuke the infidel. Allah Akbar!

Iran is surrounded by American and European forces occupying its neighbours, Iraq and Afghanistan. A nuclear weapon is one of deterrence. Iran's actions make complete sense, unless one views them from the perspective of imperialists.

Of course because it was the Americans and Europeans that said they wanted to remove Iran from the map

Oh god...another Iraq and Afghanistan waiting to happen? What if US invades and they actually already have nuclear weapons and they detonate one! EEEEK!

Iran as a country scares the living sht out of me...same with North Korea! Freakking loons running those countries!

So, the correct response to American or European aggression is to start a nuclear holocaust in the ME? What brilliant thinkers Iran must have.

This is not American or European turf, their homelands are not threatened by a nuclear exchange. Does Iran think that Israel (a nuclear country) will be twiddling their thumbs? Does this strategy come straight from Iran’s suicidal psychiatric wards? It seems so.

I made no judgements about their actions, I simply explained the rationale.

Well america's response to war was nuke them and they will surrender. It's a fairly good tactic actually. Considering the only nation to have used a nuke has the biggest arsenal of them. Yet other countries who have never used one are not allowed to have them. I keep hearing ya but iran would use them but nobody ever remembers the US has used them and could very well use them in the future.

Granted i don't want a nuclear stand off but the americans have shown they will use one if need be so if i was iran i would also want to ensure i packed some fire power. In my opinion every single country should disarm and nukes should be banned because i cannot find a logical reason as to why the US who have actually shown they are capable of using them are allowed to have them.

The only way to stop a nuclear WW3 is to get rid of nukes and i am amazed the world allows the development of such a destructive disgusting weapon.

The West has been antagonizing Iran for decades since the expulsion of the Shah. They probably don't want to destroy Iran, just to enact regime change which explains the actions of the present regime quite cogently.

The nuclear bomb is the ultimate expression of statism.

I think its safe to say that its just not the West that wants this, but the people of Iran as well. If you look at the protests in Iran.

Another interesting opinion piece:

CIA veteran: Israel to attack Iran in fall

Yes, which is another reason why the "bomb Iran" argument is so irrational.

I have also received rumours from several channels reporting an Israeli attack on Iran in September. I'm skeptical, I've received similar reports over the past several years.

And who is going to disarm the USA? Hmmmmmm? It seems that you are advocating making the problem worse. I think the separation of church and state in the US holds them in check (what if fundamental Christians had their finger on the button?). There’s nothing like that in Iran. They’re irrational and unpredictable.

Really? As I've pointed out this is only salient from the perspective of imperialists.

Perhaps you can educate me. The bile that spews forth from the mouth of its secular leader about Israel doesn’t seem rational. Neither do the dumb directives from clerical leader’s seem remotely coherent. And braindead, hatefilled arseholes like this should have nuclear arms?

What's irrational about the leader of an Islamic country hating on Israel? It's par for the course in the Middle East. The directives of a clerical autocracy can seem arbitrary and incoherent to us, but how do you think they view our governments' banal directives and petty tyrannies that aren’t based on theocracy?

What seems irrational about that regime's behaviour, from the perspective of an imperialist, is that it refuses to obey the edicts of a more powerful power. Exercising power and independence at the expense of the lives and livelihoods of the regime's people seems irrational too, until we realize this is what all governments do.

Sounds like you just described the US to me.

Israel will never attack iran, if they do game over for the rest of us. Attacking iran will require the use of nuclear weapons and then it brings many other countries into play. Attacking iran will start WW3

Yea if iran does not do what the powerful nations want they are declared a threat as with any other country that does not bow down to the powerful nations.

The questions israel and the US states need to ask themselves is where does china and Russia's loyalty lie?

I don't think so. Why would an attack require the use of nukes?

That's a bad case of moral equivalence you got there....
