So, I get this call from 074 183 0729 this morning.

The guy answers by saying he is a Telkom representative and he is calling to say that a consultant would like to come to my house to upgrade my internet connection for free... He quoted my landline number and confirmed my address.

Being in a rush, I say: "Yeah sure". Once at work I start thinking about this...Sounds a bit dodge.

4:30pm the same number calls me: "I'm at your gate - please let me in." I'm still at work, and I tell him that, then he says, no worries call me when you get home and I will pull through, we are working late.

Now I start wondering. So I call Telkom - they say this is complete bull. Also, if you look at his cell number, its a Vodacom number.

Obviously someone at Telkom is providing this guy with my details...

I called him back and told him that I know the game he is playing and if I see him at my house the police will be there to greet him...He denies everything and says his name is Tolang with Telkom ID number "RP100567"...

Left it there...but be warned guys.

I had the same incident happen with me, this was regards to FTTH.
Quoted my full details with address and number etc so obviously I thought it was real.
Arrange to see him Thursday.
Suffice to say, I had a Telkom issue pretty much the same time, spoke to the guys from @TelkomZA (Twitter) and they denied knowing anything about it.

Thing is, it's happening alot (obviously)

What is Telkom doing about this?

Is it possible that the guy could have gotten hold of your mail?
Do you shred documents that contain personal information before throwing it in the trash?

They tried this with me also, Roodepoort, Gauteng... wanted to upgrade my internet to wireless or some crap...
I told them where to shove it and put the phone down...

They also quoted my street address and my landline number.

They enter your house and take all electronics and jewellery. And you open the gate for them.

Applying logic is normally suffice.

What if they arrive at your house dressed in Telkom clothing and sporting the necessary that convinces you they work for Telkom only to be assaulted, robbed etc?

Your "logic" fine there too?

Same thing with the SAPS scams and such, people have SAPS uniforms, they impersonate SAPS, they commit crimes... you still gonna chirp us "Applying logic is normally suffice" ?!?

Yup. I trust nobody.

The Sheriff of the Court pitched up at our apartment complex gate, I did not allow him in. (Wasn't for me.)

Oh, yes....nothing in life is free. Accept that.
