Free-CAD/open cascade/salome ?

I work on Autodesk Inventor at work and am looking for a good FOSS for home

Does anyone have experience with any of the above? I can't understand the relationship between Open Cascade and Salome. Is the one built on the other one?

(non-computer person here folks :) )

If anyone is working in this area I would love to share info with them. For example my Ubuntu software center (11.10) has Free-Cad 0.11, where as it is now on 0.13.
 
I would, but my last 40K is tied up, currently filtering my blood.

If you are on subscription you get a transferable license with the software. Then you can use the same software at home, unless your boss has some rigid rules.


There was once a project called avoCADo but I think it died.
 
123d? its also autodesk iirc. and draftsight is apparently also good (think its just 2d though?)
EDIT:sorry, theyre not opensource, but theyre free.
 
Unless the license has changed you have the rights to use the Inventor at home. You had to be paying subscription and you would be working with the really great product that you already know.
If you are using it at home for your own personal gain I could understand the reticence of your boss to alloww it so maybe offer to do some work at home or say you can get so much more done working at home from say 6am and going in to the office at 9am and avoiding the traffic.
If you are using vault don't forget to check the model out before you leave the office :)

MMm, I think I should look into that. But can I run it on Ubuntu?
