Free data from Vodacom using Opera Mini during the weekend

Some issues with Opera Mini free!!

1. Seems to have a proxy in Germany - when I logged into FB on Vodafone I triggered an 'imposter' process because I had jumped from SA to Germany, and couldn't use the service until I had passed security checks.

2. Tried the site mobile.live.com to get the IM app. Doesn't work at all - asks me to 'check operator settings' Well, Vodacom - these are the setting you sent me!!! :confused:

B) MTN Provides uncapped internet at 50 rand for a period of 24 hours.

So Vodacom does this:

B) But, Advertise that you can surf for free on weekends!!! that makes up for their high prices!!!!! whoo hoo!!!

so basically, the *few* of us with supported phones, can theoretically read text from the fake baby internet for 4 weekends only using a scaled down vodacom modified opera browser? is that what you are going on about vodacom? :erm:

Not sure if you get it for the whole weekend either. My weekend starts on Friday but it seems to only kick in at midnight (which is actually Saturday). I'm asleep by then, so it is only really from Saturday morning until Sunday night.

I got that as well, but I wouldnt call it a major issue...

What error do you get when entering the URL? It may be that your device is not supported, do you get a 'not supported' message? strange that you do not get the link from SMS. i have also had problems with this on past occasions but mostly it works.
 
Is anyone using OM5 for free this weekend?


Everytime I try downloading the new opera mini it reverts back to the crappy VF enhanced 4.2....

yeah i tried it friday night after 10pm and it used up my GF's money - I have smses 3 times and it won't even let me know my phone isn't support - no error, nothing.

For me - I would not even surf like this even if you paid me! :sick: :sick:
 
I'm not even going to bother ... the internet is not the same on mobile phones! If I could download all the mp3's I want then I'd look into it!
 
I love browsing on my phone - one of the reasons I got a decent phone. Anyway, sounds like a complete flop from VC this one.
 
get gateway error when i click on sms link?
could be because my phone (satio) is unbranded?
 
Well I used 20MB this weekend, so Vodacom gave me R40 worth of bandwidth. Pretty pathetic considering that you can only browse and not download.
 
When trying to download from the SMS link on my Nokia E52, all I get is: 'Web: no gateway reply'. Tried both office WLAN and 'internet' APN - same result on both.
