Free data from Vodacom using Opera Mini during the weekend

vodacom. Why do you have to do things with a deadline. and four weeks is too short compared to cell C's free on weekends.

anyway thanks. i once downloaded that vodafone application. it was not user friendly like the operamini that im currently using.

Im spending R1200 through data on vodacom- and guess what do I get Win Everytime promotion- a mms bundle, something that i dont use.

if it wasn't for the ADSL unavailability, i would have left voodoo a long time ago. R389 for two gig, its been the price for two years or more if im not mistaken.

I wish the world cup could come and go, because many people want to rip the visitors off. so when they are done with the world cup, then may be we will see a drop in the prices.

All I can say is this is a pathetic attempt from VC to save face from MTN taking away some of their market share.

Kkkurupt, must agree... VC know there are ppl out there that don't have any alternative, but to use them, and many business users are on contracts, if they lower the rates for us prepaid customers, then they would have to do the same for the contract users, this equals a loss of revenue they are not willing to accept... since MTN lowered the OOB rates, I have been boycotting Vodacom prepaid 3G, and will only buy again if/when they reduce these horrendous rates! In the mean time I use my ADSL from work... if you think about it, the MTN OOB rates only apply to their 3G contract users, if u are a prepaid user, then u got to buy more data once a data bundle is up, so the OOB rates don't apply to prepaid... am I right? So for a prepaid user there is no reason to switch to MTN, if u on contract it's a different story!

Vodacom sucks and so does Vodafone - whenever I tried to download Opera Mini it would redirect me to some Vodafone "enhance" version which basically is a cut down version with no control over bookmarks, etc. So I simply went and downloaded the .jad and .jar files from the Opera website, uploaded it to my website and downloaded it from there. Now I have full Opera Mini 5 with no restrictions.

If anybody wants to do this as well drop me a PM and I'll send you the link.

Vodacom has a history of under estimating the intellect of it's users...

No VodaCom is too arrogant, fact is a CEO's job is to look after the interests of the shareholders... what do shareholders want... profit... profit = dividends...

It's simple...

higher rates = higher profit = happy shareholder = CEO that will get a nice performance bonus...

lower rates = lower profit = unhappy shareholders = CEO that may get fired... or get no performance bonus...

This economy is driven by pure greed!

I think you need to use the Vodafone version for this to work?

So does this mean I can also download for free? Will be a bit of a let down if only browsing is free.

As discussed earlier in the thread, this is a VC manipulated version of 4.2 which does not have a download manager.

MTN vs Vodacom

so let me get this straight.....

MTN does this:
A) MTN lowers the R2 per MB price considerably.
B) MTN Provides uncapped internet at 50 rand for a period of 24 hours.

So Vodacom does this:
A) Keeps the R289/GB or R2000/GB out of bundle prices.
B) But, Advertise that you can surf for free on weekends!!! that makes up for their high prices!!!!! whoo hoo!!!
-but you never get the link after smsing
-but it's only for your phone with a 2" screen
-but it's actually only for 5% of phones, no-one can get it working
-but you can't download anything with it
-but you can't view sites like youtube
-but you can't view ANY sites that uses flash
-but it's for a limited time only: 1 month
-but only on the weekends

so basically, the *few* of us with supported phones, can theoretically read text from the fake baby internet for 4 weekends only using a scaled down vodacom modified opera browser? is that what you are going on about vodacom? :erm:

Please be aware that by participating in this offer you are helping VC with a marketing exercise...

VC Free Internet trial... and you are the guinea pigs!

I recieved the link via sms but apparently the page is unavailable...

I don't think you'll be able to browse for free on that though... Pity, because I use Mini 5 for WM phones - works like a charm!

Probably not - all I wanted was a working Opera Mini 5 though. Plus the amount of mobile browsing I do probably costs me cents!

Already been using the vodafone enhanced opera mini for a while (couldn't find the proper version and opera kept on referring me back to the "vodafone enhanced" version).

I used to have Opera 5 Beta 2, and then I reset my phone last week... and now the only version I can find is this "enhanced for vodafone" version. its a bit frustrating
