Vodacom is proud to announce the launch of a new data promotion from 1 June 2009 to 31 August 2009 for all Vodacom Contract, Top Up and Prepaid customers. Customers subscribing to the Broadband Standard and Broadband Advanced 24-month Data Contracts, 24-month Top Up Data Contracts, Month-to-Month, Once-off and Prepaid Data Bundles, will also receive free data.
Customers who buy or subscribe to a Data Bundle during the promotional period will receive an additional free data allocation with each bundle purchased or subscribed to. The additional free data allocated will be the greater of 25MB or 10% of the Data Bundle purchased or subscribed to.
For example, if a customer bought a 250MB Data Bundle on 2 June, the free additional data they will receive is 25MB, totalling at 275MB. Any unused data of the 275MB, can be used until 31 July 2009.
Please note: This data promotion does not apply to Corporate APN customers.
So is this the start of a split between contract data cost and prepaid data cost where I will be forced in the future to get a contract to get a descent price for data?
So if i buy a 5mb db id get 30mb for ZAR 9.25...
So each time I load a db do i get the extra 25mb...
I'm left speculating if this is a kind of field excercise to either:
1) Try and guage if customers actually care for freebies. I would say that everyone should get in on the act and buy.
Thus showing the market (or VC in this case) that customers desperately need more affordable bandwidth and are actively looking for means to use larger volumes of data.
2) This could be a feeler to see how the infrastructure would cope with increased activity if VC were actually going to drop prices because of a Seacom connection. 10% more bandwidth across all of VC users over the "special period", would give VC an indication of how the network would handle projected usage as a result of taking the first steps to stimulating competition.
3) This could just be a feeler to check out Seacom's throughput. (If they were hooked up at that time)
4) It's a simple reward/freebie
Free is good right?)

Seems to be the case.![]()
So I guess it is pure coincidence that it is not possible to change my services on my contract phone on V4Me tonight... I have a 20Mb bundle that is used to check mail and do banking... A 5Mb bundle for the next to months would have been sufficient...
I noticed this too. V3g, can't the 'leftover' amount be shown on *111# as well?Just a quick question - when checking DB on phone (*111#) it only shows this months balance but on the website it shows my 'leftover' from last month as well. I presume the one on the website is the one to work from...
I for one welcome the initiative by Vodacom ...
