Free Google Chrome OS here in 2010

Seems a so called 'reporter' somewhere along the way is blowing things out of proportion.
I doubt taking the netbook market would make microsoft flinch much. Wonder if paid news services would do the same? hehe

Exactly. Google themselves have said that they're not building a desktop OS, they're building a web OS. It's basically going to be Linux that can launch Chrome. From what I understand the browser will be the only app that runs locally, everything else will be in this "cloud" executives and managers have started raving about recently /s.

I don't see how this is supposed to rival MS. MS will loose some customers, but nothing to write home about.

No, I merely just said it is linux and nothing fancy at all. I'll still give it a go once its released.

Yeah.. another half-baked product from Google released to the market in hopes that everyone will "create" it and do all the work. Google has a habit of just releasing something and waiting for everyone including the open source community to do all the work for free. Its the reason Android is not where it should be. Its seriously bugs me because there is bounds of potential but its like they don't care.

What half baked products are you talking about exactly? Google search? Not half-baked. Google Earth? Not half-baked. Google Maps? Not half-baked. Google docs/apps? Not half-baked. Gmail? not half-baked. Android? Not half-baked... So what products are you referring to exactly?? Google often brings out experimental products but these are clearly marked as being experimental - not the same as half-baked!
 
Why Chrome OS Will Succeed – Opinion
First of all, Google is planning on approaching the operating system market from a different angle than the rest. Instead of Chrome OS competing head on with Microsoft as a “native OS”; Google aims to market Chrome OS as a ‘cloud operating system’. This is a platform that Microsoft still hasn’t committed to, when in actual fact, cloud computing is widely expected to be the future of computing. This therefore means that Chrome OS will be getting it’s foot in first and positioning itself to be the market leader in cloud computing before Microsoft or even Apple get a foot in.

This strategy is key and Google Search itself is a great example of how being a ‘first mover’ can really position a company for success. Even when Microsoft and Yahoo poured insurmountable resources into the search engine market..they still failed to dint Google’s dominance. Today Bing can only watch and wait as Google Search dominates the market.

I dissagree, experimental is not really much different to half-baked. Want to try some of my experimental cookies?

i don't see why chrome is being compared with windows. they clearly perform separate functions
i think it's clear by the hotcake sales on the ipad that not all consumers fit into a desktop / laptop mould and that the days of the desktop ruling the market are fast evaporating.
i should imagine that chrome will be a vehicle for future services from google which run in the cloud.
i would be surprised if chrome isn't the foundation for more services to come.

This I don't understand as it is a stupid comment. I pay nothing for Linux and its a piece of ******* . Now, I have also made a stupid comment. If I could use Linux for what I wanted, then maybe I wouldn't make stupid comments, but Windows works very well for me. If Chrome can do that in year then I will happily move.

Difference is that experimental is supposed to be half-baked, that how you experiment with it. You can't go back and change the recipe once it's fully baked can you?

I'm still waiting for someone to be a bit more specific about exactly what Google products they are referring to as half-baked?
