The free swap out period was only for 3 months after which Vodacom closed it again. I know of a few people who have tried to swap since and have been turned away. PM v3g and see what he can do but I know this was only done after pressure from the community and most people did swap.

Yes, there was a free swap-out for quite a long period, more than 6 months if I recall correctly. We swapped a huge number of cards, think the bill to VC was over 8 zeros!

But obviously there had to be some end date to it and that was October (I think) last year.

I guess the important point is to not go on what you hear from other people but to call or mail Vodacom and get the official answer.

That's so true. After my 3rd call of being referred, cause no-one knew if it could still be done, only then did I get an answer. And when I said I didn't know about it.... I was told it was put on billboards...... Already put this on helopeter, and got the std Vodacom reply on the site, but no call to me yet. It's as if they are the client and I am the service provider, treating me like !$#% and I have to beg them.... for results and info...
