Hot off the press:

Due to the recent successful introduction of HSDPA to the South African market, Vodacom today announced that, effective 21 April 2006, any customer who owns a locally purchased Vodacom 3G Data Connect Card can visit any Vodacom approved outlet for a free swop-out for a 3G HSDPA Data Connect Card – dependant on availability of stock and proof of original purchase within South Africa.

Customers who upgraded to the HSDPA offering in the last month can receive a credit on their account by visiting their original point of purchase.

Vodacom’s HSDPA network offers users downlink speeds of up to 1.8 Megabits per second which is faster than ADSL and up to 5 times faster than 3G.

Dependant on ICASA approval, the market can also look forward to further reductions in certain Vodacom data tariffs in the near future.

Great news from Vodacom!

Awaiting the next announcement that I can exchange my old Nokia 3310 for the new N 70 :D

If I go to midrand and swapout my 3G card, do I get a new 24 month contract?
and do they credit my current contract with 7 months? at no cost.

There will be no additional fees, bring your 3G card, with some proof of your contract or invoice if you bought it outright and it will be swapped.

The 'blank salesman' is going to be a problem. In defense of these guys, this was announced here on myADSL before anywhere else, so you know more than the shops at this point in time. The communication will go out to them tonight, but it will take a while to filter through, so be gentle....

There are a large number of cards on their way to the shops but there are still many more 3G cards out there than available HSDPA cards.....

You read it here first!

Reason I ask, is that I did the upgrade via VSP and the card was delivered to me, and there was the standard upgrade admin fee included in the cost, so just want to check if I need to get the fee and the card amount credited or just the fee for the card?

V3g,We can do this at Vodaworld as well??
I think Ill take a drive out in the morning and visit you blokes..

One snag..Im like a pig in the prverbial sh*te with my fully working 3g now..Do I chance it and upgrade or stay with whats working....Mmmmm..desicions,desicions...

This is one of the reasons I send Telkom to hell and switched to Vodacom.
Vodacom3G and Vodacom rock!!! :D

Well done Vodacom - no wonder you guys are known as "South Africa's Leading Cellular Network". First cellular network with decent representation on this forum, first to slaughter data prices (let's hope this reduction continues into the future :D ), first with 3G, first with a decent footprint for 3G, first with HSDPA on ALL existing 3G sites and now another first with a free datacard swop out.

It would have been great if you could have added first with prepaid data bundles  , but sometimes, you have to stand back and let the opposition lead.

Keep up the good work Vodacom and V3G.

Yes very well done to Vodacom...this is one company that actually attempts to live up to "South Africa's Leading Cellular Network"..big ups :)

This is just the news I was waiting for - I am thrilled that VC decided to come to the party - thanks so much!

I would assume so,

The problem was fixed on your SIM, so it should be fine on a HSDPA card. If you have a strong 3G signal, go for it!

And a big thank you to v3g for announcing it to forumites here first :).

Only a pleasure, make sure you guys take the gap and get first in line....

I spoke to the vodashops listed in the HSDPA Questions thread and they indicated they've got about 180 in stock.
