Free HSDPA Swapout

Both the Vodashop and Nashua Mobile in Vodaworld gave me good, hassel free service and fairly quick service.
 
Let me get this right

I have a 3G 500 contract from july last year. AS far as i can understand vodacom will give me a free swop to the new HSDPA card ????. i just want to get my facts right before i go to them.

if this is the case i will be very happy. :D

I will be camping outside vodacom knysna tomorrow morning wating for them to open.

I see you are from Knysna? Is the 3G coverage there reasonable? (Does not look so good on Voda's map). Reason I ask is that I might end up working (and therefore living!) down there soon!

Depends on where you are using it. at the la de da PEZULA golf resort. you get no coverage ????. nore on the heads or Rexford. Thesen island is sporadic. in the center of town there is resonable coverage. according to the guys at vodacom the tower is on top of the water tower witch is on the moutan that overlooks the whole town and heads. The strength is about 3 bars. It has been very good. I am still wondering what HSDPA will be like.

Thanks for the info. I imagine I will be based in town (office) and prolly one of the B&B's initially.

If you are on 3 bars then you should have no problem getting reasonable speed on HSDPA. Where I am in 'Maritzburg (Scottsville) I only get 2 (sometimes 3) bars of signal yet seem to average 700-800 Kb/s which is twice as fast as normal 3G (believe me, you can see the difference in reponse times and on your bill! :eek: ). I have had it peak at 1,010 Kb/s (only once).

If I do get to Knysna will look you up. A former colleague of mine flies the Helo at that larney A$$ Pezula place.

Just got HSDPA today and after some tweaking i am humbled by the speed.

If vodacom is going to reduce the 3G tarrifs in june.

1. will my 3G 500 contract suddenly have more megabyts.
2. will the 3Gone package become cheaper ??????

all hail vodacom and HSDPA:D

I get about 1100Kb/s on telkom speed test.:D :D

AFAIK the price decrease only apply to vanilla 3G and GPRS. HSPDA will be billed at the current "normal" rate.

The correct way is for the LED's to tell you, but I must still get the descriptions for this card.

In the meantime, run the test at http://speed.vodacom.co.za/test and look at the results.

Anything greater than 384Kb/s in the download and/or 64K in the upload implies you must be on HSDPA.

Lower does not mean you're not on HSDPA (you could be getting a very bad signal), but higher will confirm it.
 
Can't get my 3G card swapped around? Help!

Hi

I've PM our favorite local vodacom helper on this forum.

Maybe I can post my problem here too and get some advise?

I am struggling to get my 3G internet mobile card changed to that new faster one.

I've gone back to my original dealer, but keep on getting various excuses like:

1. Their Head Office is behind in allocating stock to various shops.
2. There are other people that are also still waiting for the new stock.
3. They are not allowed to use from the stock that are in store - it must be from the stock they'll get from Head Office that are allocated for the swapping purpose.
4. They'll phone me when it is ready.

Please note that I'm more than willing to be patient but this has been going on now for months.

Also they can't give me an exact date as to when to expect my new card - just be patient. That's the answer I get every single time.

P.S. This is from the vodacom shop at Midlands Mall in Pietermaritzburg.

Any advise will definitely be appreciated.
 
Still stuck with 3G card, what now ???

Last year I heard that you could swop your 3g card for the HSDPA enable card, then I heard that it was a joke and that it was not done. Now I hear it was so, and I am not allowed to swop it out now, since it was a thing run for a short period. :mad: I am paying the same ammount any hsdpa user is paying, why do I have to run at 3g, Vodacom, pls help, I phoned 082 155, and they could not do anything. (an 18 minute conversation from my MTN number..... :mad: pls hold.... pls hold.....) Can someone from Vodacom pls help me on this. :(
