Late last year and early this year I was able to connect to the Internet for free. There was a WISP that used to be based in business park next to Kenilworth Racecourse called Uninet. My buddy works in the complex nearby and noticed a free connection. I went and tested it myself and told some other buddies about it who parked nearby and used it to download, P2P didn't perform as well as on ADSL but it worked. They have apparently moved to another place but watch out maybe you can get lucky too. I dedicate this thread for people to post info about opportunities to get free internet, legal of course.

Maybe that's why they moved.

IMHO they were stupid then for not using some kind of security. They apparently asked staff at the companies nearby not to use it.

They moved to Obz. They charge like R250/month, with no cap. For that price, I don't see why you would still want to be STEALING from them. Yes, what you did was STEALING. There is no such thing as FREE INTERNET - if you're not paying for it, then somebody else is.

Yeah ? And Virgin Active is also offering their members FREE internet. [sarcasm ends here]

No sarcasm required, and no BS, and no stealing "sec.s".

If you can access any of the Tshwane OpenAccess WiFi sites, you get free, rate limited internet.

The last time that happened in South Africa, was when XSInet started offering free dialup in South Africa (circa 1999), at the user expense of having to tolerate constant advertisements. Of course, the actual Telkom call was not free.

None of that happens in Tshwane. It's free. Period.
