Free Local Bandwidth

I personally would also move over to SNOT or teleskum if

1. I get better bandwidth/cap
2. If their service is better
3. If I'm guarenteed that my connection will be fixed within 2 days...

So far Iburst has been the better option cos
1. I don't have a phone line
2. The connection to Hyde Park tower has been good to me
3. Their techies are responding to problems a HELL lot quicker than placing a call to teleskum asking for information
4. Mobiality

what I would like to see from iburst is:

1. Increase of cap
2. Faster speeds as the 1024mbps is starting to look slow compared to teleskum and the likes
3. More towers up and running in the country

i agree ... i dont have telkom anything in my area ... my area doesnt support 3g or even edge ... and sentech is not in my area ... so iburst is really my only option to go unless i am using normal gprs @ 2k transfers ...

i am begging iburst for a tower in my area ... and hell ... the pure fact that i am connected with iburst is a mirracle .... HELP HELP

The guys from Iburst are not stupid, Iburst (according to me) is the only wireless company in the world that is giving a fixed line operator competion. If you still want to compete with a fixed line operator, then you must either do what the fixed line can offer, or lead the way.

So what I'm getting to is that, if Iburst wants to keep their market share or grow it, then they will counter. We have not seen any major counter attacks from them lately, so it means that they are happy with the growth the company is showing, and untill such time when their growth flattens (or even drop) will they continue what they are doing.

Pilgrim - I am agreeing with you and I see a mirror image of why I went for Iburst, but you can also go to Vodacom if you really want to get connected quickly...

That is what I did use for a while (My phone is 3g enabled) but at R2 per meg out of bundle it is just not viable.

With the 64K cap you can at least continue using the internet. Google talk only uses about 20Kb/s (3KB/s) so 64K is enough (in a way  )

I got Iburst for:
1) no phone line and
2) mobility

I rented a house where there was no line. NOW, i have moved to a house where I can install a line and I'm not moving anytime soon. So now i should go to ADSL. Now I wish I took m-m. Iburst better do some improvement on current contracts or I'm cancelling.

Well I use Iburst for the 64kb, the speed at the price at the mobility a bit. (its just cool)

But with all their recent huge sign up increases they should really be able to afford a price cut or service increase. Didnt say, just like Telkom, that the prices would drop if they got "critical mass" or something like that?

lol if vodacom wakes up and does it then all the other mywireless etc companies are in for some huge comp

My parents use the internet purely for the email & a little bit of browsing (online banking) & with the 1g package, getting capped is not really a problem for them which leads them no reason to get adsl, I'm happy aswell I suppose I can still download & trackmania works perfectly, I think if they had to upgrade I would either say either bigger cap OR no shaping OR faster line OR cheaper rates/cheaper modem, plenty of options for them to choose from or they could take all of them :p

Hey, track mania ftw!

I can play international on there with no lag at all, how does that game work? Im guessing because there is no realy conatact between the cars its simply has to transfer times and text, nothing else like normal games.

Also, remember that some much better ADSL regulations came up a while ago, sayign there should be a 10gig minimun cap and no line rental, but it was just ignored.
Telkom could easily do this again, so you cant expect unlimted local to be definate.

tbf to Telkom that was proposed legislation. It was the responsibility of ICASA to ensure that the draft legislation that was tabled included those things. Whether Telkom would have acted according to that legislation had it been approved is another matter.

As for my continued use of iBurst. That is largely dependant on how much longer I continue to rent although if transfering the ADSL is free I might move sooner rather than later.

Yes, it was. So what is this legislation btw?

Is it what ICAS have finalised, or what Telkom have accepted already?

Basically, what is the chance of them really giving uncapped local (or higher cap) and dropping shaping as well as maby the line rental, well the last part isnt going to happen soon imo.

If the draft legislation with the local content uncapped is approved by parliament then telkom has a legal obligation to do it. Whether they do it or not is dependant on what penalties there are for not following the legislation and whether telkom believes that cost is worth it.

Hi guys

I cannot commit to anything at this point. There is alot happening and we are carefully looking at a number of factors.

What I can say is that our customers and what our customers are saying is the important thing right now.

Cheers
Ed

The second telkom gives free local again and drops its access charges I am outa here. Iburst are a bunch of twits if they let their packages become stale

Ed,

I think we can understand that you are waiting to see what Telkom does before doing anything yourself. Just try not let your service end up being for low end users only.

Personally happy with my current cap and cost. But as I said if Telkom offer free local and you don't I gotta go.

mic_y is right.

Fantastic, you looking to irritate him? :p

It really sucks for us though, but mic_y, one thing I dont understand, how can Telkom or could Telkom have offered free access to any local, even if it wasnt on their network. like if you had ADSL two years ago you could even access the iburst network unlimitedley.

So dont Telkom have to pay to connect to Ibursts own network, like Iburst have t pay Telkom.

Okay i think I dont understand something, or its just that Ibursts own network goes via Telkom's leased lines, so everything is Telkom anyway.
LOL, Telkom rarely pays anyone for anything. Iburst are all end users and end users pay the other networks for everything. Telkom is always on the receiving end. If local does indeed become free for all adsl accounts then Iburst can just get a couple of adsl lines and route all local traffic through them. :D

I was actually considering Iburst if the cost went down to R300 or less for a decent 3GB cap on a month to month contract and not the crappy 1GB they currently offer, but if adsl will give me unlimited local for even less then I will consider going for it. So Iburst also has to consider the customers they don't have yet.
