Hi. Has anyone signed up for any of the Free Me packages recently launched by Telkom? I'd appreciate some feedback as I'm considering switching over due to my current service provider not offering a good balance of both talk time and data. Should I switch or not?

I switched two months back to the "Month to Month" 20GB package. Loving it. Fills my mobile data needs for the month, even get to watch a couple episodes on Netflix while I'm waiting around. Have had less dropped calls than I did on Vodacom, but granted Telkom have much better signal where I live than Vodacom do.

Bottom line though, because I have all the data I need, I make a lot more use of Skype and WA Calling.

So I am happy with my move. I still wouldn't sign up for a contract no, I believe the days of contracts are done. Whoever offers the best deal at the time I need it is who I use.

As long as you are aware Free Me does not include free minutes to other service providers (mtn, vodacom & cell c). Also be ware that the Telkom staff/stores are clueless most of the time. They don't even bother picking up the phones in store - seen this with multiple stores.

Other than that, they generally have good value for money, they have a roaming agreement with MTN, they don't allow WASPS to steal your money and you can set monthly limits to avoid shock bills...

Definitely worth it. I made the switch when they launched it, mainly because I was on pre-paid so the process of porting was simple enough.

The cost per minute is comparable to some bundled minute rates so it makes for a worthwhile proposition even if you do a fair amount of calling.

I will point out that you need to be careful of what calls you think may be free as there are a variety of numbers which I called which I thought were Telkom landlines but had in fact been ported out to other providers.

And they don't deplete your airtime when data bundle is finished (unless you approve it). Speaking prepaid...

The 20GB package has 1500 free minutes to all of the other service providers, plus 300 mins to Telkom numbers.
