Free Microsoft Security Essentials

Redmond Releases MSE - How Does It Compare To VIPRE?
You may have heard about 'Microsoft Security Essentials' (MSE), that will be released today, which is the no-charge replacement for their paid Windows Live OneCare antivirus and antispyware product. Security companies unanimously dismissed MSE as proof that Microsoft could not compete in the paying market. ("They could not get people to buy it so now they are giving it away"). Some people might ask about the differences with VIPRE so here are a few points:

* MSE does NOT protect your incoming email (!)
* MSE Scan speed is SLOW
* MSE does not have real-time customizable monitors
* MSE does not have advanced malware behavior analysis
* MSE does not have live U.S. based Tech Support or Chat

In other words, you get what you pay for, as not protecting incoming email is like locking the house but leaving the front door wide open.

Okay, lets look at those points that "VIPRE" pointed out...

1. Doesn't protect incoming email... hrmm.. Who still uses Outlook?! - Gmail beats all. (and they have internal virus scanning.

2. MSE is slow.. no doubt.

3. Why do you wanna customise them anyways? if you do... Avast is free and you can :P

4. Advanced Malware Behavior analysis?! WTF's that supposed to mean.. haha!

5. It does, however, have a HUGE community on TechNet and other Microsoft Support... probably a million times bigger than VIPRE....

Top Free Antiviruses out there include: Avira, AVG, Avast and MSE!
I'm never paying for another AV... EVER again.
