Free software for creating panoramas?

// Bastardo :D
// They certainly have upgraded the HDR, Pano kind of tools in the next edition
// I think with Fireworks being billed as the web graphic design tool of the suite
// PS might go back to being a pretty dam fine photo edit tool

If it helps you it looks ok in FF with the ICC bit flipped off.I might be able to stretch my budget for the $199 upgrade. :)

Are you sure your screen cable is plugged in all the way? ;)

Just kidding. I'll check it when I'm home. Will be a week or so though. Looks absolutely fine here in both Safari and FF2 (no profile support)

Played around with the gfx.color_management.enabled setting in FF:

I'll play around on other machines today and see what I get.

And you get the same in Safari? Hmm, do you get the same result of Opera? I'll check it when I get home.

I don't know hey, this is what I get on my calibrated screen. I checked, calibrated it again, checked again. My FireFox is version 2.0.0.18 so there's no colour management. Safari obviously has:

Did you find anything?

Does anyone out there have a calibrated display? Please check this and tell us what you see.

I'm looking at those two photos you embedded and I still see a difference between them

There should be a difference - one is a screen cap of a browser that supports colour profiles, and one is a screen cap of a browser that doesn't.

Do you still see the purple though?

Never saw purple - just an heavily over saturated blue.

EDIT - and it looks the same on my PC (FF3)

Hmm. The shots you posted showed the sea looking purple (to me). Granted, I haven't checked that on my external screen, only on the (uncalibrated) MacBook.

I guess (at least one) of our screens isn't calibrated 100% - I wouldn't be surprised if it's mine, I'm not too impressed with the Huey, but the screen generally shows what I remember seeing on the day.

With respect to the saturation: I forgot the camera in M and overexposed the whole series quite badly. I pushed the exposure down about two stops, increased contrast slightly to get rid of the washed-out look, and that's about it. But that is more or less the way it really looked - it was a gorgeous day and I remember thinking that sea is about the bluest I've ever seen.

Does anyone know of any good free software that I can use to create panoramas?

I have some at work... I can't remember the name tho.. I'll dig on the net and see what I can find.

What is Image Composite Editor?
Microsoft Image Composite Editor is an advanced panoramic image stitcher. The application takes a set of overlapping photographs of a scene shot from a single camera location and creates a high-resolution panorama incorporating all the source images at full resolution. The stitched panorama can be saved in a wide variety of formats, from common formats like JPEG and TIFF to multi-resolution tiled formats like HD View and Silverlight Deep Zoom.

Features
■State-of-the-art stitching algorithms automaticaly place source images and determine panorama type
■Advanced orientation adjustment view allows planar, cylindrical, and spherical projections
■Support for different types of camera motion
■Excellent exposure blending using Microsoft Research fast Poisson algorithm
■Automatic cropping to maximum image area
■No image size limitation - stitch gigapixel panoramas
■Native support for 64-bit operating systems such as 64-bit Vista
■Output in a wide variety of image formats:
◦HD View
◦Silverlight Deep Zoom
◦TIFF, JPEG, PNG, and more
Support
Microsoft Image Composite Editor is provided free of charge and without official support.

Thanks, I will check them out, I googled around, but there was quite a variety, so I thought I would put it to you guys to help decide.

Nice, wanted to ask about this the other day. Now I can finally have a full party shot :D

Will certainly try the MS software and see how it compares to Autopano which has produced excellent results but is certainly not free.
