Free the Western Cape

Once rid of the commie wet dream of the national democratic revolution that the ANC so fondly nurture, the Western Cape would have no problem at all in attracting foreign investment. Property rights would be sacrosanct and the rule of law would apply to all citizens, including politicians. A new currency would be created for the newly independent Republic of the Western Cape (RWC) which would be managed by an equally independent central bank. Initially it would trade at parity to the ZAR but would very quickly appreciate as investors came to understand and appreciate the relaxed labour laws and tax breaks associated with doing business in the RWC.

Never going to happen. Dream on. Actually please don't. This Cape Party BS is just another version of Trump and his goddamn wall. "Keep the EC migrants out" is the fundamental underscoring of this idea complete with border 'fence' guarded by 24hr security (please wtf are they going to get the electricity from?) The WC is not self-sustaining in food production, energy production, or any other kind of production. It's all a looney tunes pipe dream.
 
This is no different to any wealthy region of any country wanting to secede.

The prospect of pulling it off must be somewhere close to zero.

Yes they are. Only thing they don't have is maize.... and we all know those Capies don't eat pap or mielies.

The WC imports nearly double what it exports. That is not independence. And most of the exports are wine and fruit. What the WC is importing are electronics, and other high tech equipment, food (chicken, vegetables and oats), and cars.
 
I like how he says the cape has no faults. Crime rates in Cape Town are terrible, and have remained unsolved. Nanny state fines by major of Cape town would ramp up. I really don't think it will go as well as they think, or at least be as easy.

The minor upside is that for this to happen the Cape Party would have to win and that would mean the end of the DA stranglehold on COCT.

However ... you'd then have the Cape Party with their very racist undertones in charge ... hmmm ... perhaps better the devil you know.
