You know , it SUCKS to surf and then to get screwed by a tiny little 500mb cap on HSDPA ...not cool man!

Are there ANY Vodacom Exec's out there ? Why does Vodacom not invite ALL HSDPA / 3G users to get all data free for a day ? Can you imagine the publicity spin off's from something like that ? Or why not have free Unlimited data between , oh lets say 23:00 and 24:00 ?? I MEAN COME ON !!!

Vodacom Exec's ... I KNOW you guys are looking for a hook to keep your Data customers , why not look into something like this ?

Argh !!! ..apollogies ... getting so damn frustrated !!
 
Good luck trying to even connect to the network on that day. Although I suppose they could stagger it. ;)
 
I think slightly better pricing would help most of us a lot more than a free day's worth of bandwidth. I don't download much on my 3G anyway. Uncapped option would also be nice.
 
What they do will be competition driven. We have little real competition, a restrictive infrastructure and an impotent regulator. We'll have to wait a long time before we see unlimited data for a reasonable rate.
 
Rather move to another country. Europe you pay like 20 euros for UNCAP...
Seriously you living in a dream land where dreams like this wont ever come to South African.

We will see after 2010:)

A very good point - free for a day would congest any network to the point where everyone has a bad experience on that day.

It would be great if Vodacom did decide to lower its rates - usually this happens in April, but I suspect Vodacom might be waiting for SEACOM like the rest of South Africa is - if so, I hope the wait is worth it.

PS: 'Uncapped' is already available on Blackberry phones for <ZAR70/month.

Well that "sweet spot" would depend on how large your profit margins are now .. wouldnt it? :D

From what I can.. with vodacom bw reseller rates and stuff. Theyre as bad as the "interconnection fee`s"
 
Why would anyone need so much data. the only things I can think of that would require you to have so much allowance is if you were downloading games, movies and pr0n. ISP Execs won't exactly be helping citizens contribute to the GDP if they allow unlimited access.

What about Social networking? Streaming Television/Radio online. The goal of the internet is to facilitate communication and accesibility.

When people ask for uncapped they won't really use that much more, its just about the freedom that is ment to come with using the internet. Luckily those who feel the need to exploit uncapped by raping their bandwith will breach the acceptable usage agreement and forefit their speed.

IMHO the internet has been hijacked for commerce. The balance between free content and that for commercial gain is not right. Why should we pay over the odds to see advertising all the time and then have the search engine assume we want to shop?

What would be contained in such an AUP specifically associated with a 'free unlimited day'?
 
I don't get why they can't do some kind of semi-unlimited usage thing during very offpeak hours. Surely the usage of the Vodacom data network is not that heavy during the hours of 12am - 5am, that they couldn't "give" extra bandwidth to users over that period. It's one of those things that doesn't cost them anymore, but gives room to come up with fairly clever value-adds which can attract otherwise on-the-fence customers.

Maybe even offer it with only 1GB+ data bundles to act as something of an added incentive for people to commit to one of the larger bundles.

And they can't say they don't do it because it would "confuse" people. Everyone already understands offpeak and onpeak rates, and with everyone rolling out "MTN Zone" type packages, we can see that the SA consumer is ready for more complex tariffs.

EDIT: You know, maybe just something like CyberSmart's "Night Rider" package. You pay a small flat fee extra and you can get x times more data if you use it during those off-peak periods. That way Vodacom can still feel that they're making money out of it.
