mas what netgear modem you have?

I have DG834 (v2). Had severe lightning a while back with a power dip - modem/router was plugged into UPS, but somehow got damaged (all the LEDs were burning when I turned it on/reset it). Returned it to supplier and they couldn't find any lightning damage so they swapped it out for a new one.

For the new one I purchased a surge protector plug for the phone line and the router, and all is working fine.

This is my 384 as of now:
* Download time: 8.515 seconds
* Size of file: 500 KiloBytes
* Estimated line speed: 479.2 (kilobits/second)
* Estimated line speed: 58.7 (kiloBytes/second)
