Hey Guys

I received this email from OpenWeb:

Hey ******,

I am beyond myself! The excitement is too much to bear! We have finally launched our brand new Free Upload ADSL accounts!

We will be offering a 5GB and a 10GB account, offering you FULL speed international ADSL downloads; PLUS, any upload bandwidth used, locally or internationally, to any destination, will NOT count towards your cap!

Basically, what this means is FREE Uploads, to any destination. For as long as you have download cap left, your uploads will remain FREE! After you have reached your download cap, the account will hardcap, and you may purhase another.

Account specs:

FREE Upload ADSL Packages
To use these accounts you must have an ADSL-enabled phone line and an ADSL router/modem.

5GB: R249
10GB: R489

Account Information

P2P & Torrents allowed (AUP applies - Heavy upload users will have P2P and torrent access shaped. All other protocols will be unshaped)

This is a Beta Service. We are testing the viability of such an account in a commercial beta environment. We reserve the right to discontinue access to the account at the end of any month.

For more information, kindly visit: http://www.openweb.co.za

Happy Uploading!

Kind regards
Keoma Wright

I like all these new accounts coming onto market!!

Nice one! My bro will use this for his gaming server

This is such great news! I have been waiting a very long time for a packager like that! Well done OpenWeb!!!!!!!

I'm quite curious as to how much you will be able to upload on that account before you reach 5GB worth of uploads, because most protocols have to receive data too when uploading...

Ummm i am confused how that works though? Do you send more data than you receive? I thought it was the other way around :D
Yes, it is indeed other way round! But having unrestricted upload access, it would be nice for hosting games...

I'm not entirely convinced they've thought this one through. Some people will use this to host huge amounts of content from home. *cough* dc++ *cough*

I guess thats why its beta with right to kill it at any time.

Loads. Like 50-100 gig depending on type of protocol.

That's why the e-mail mentions an acceptable use policy. :)

Well i am sure openweb are stupid like mweb and give away uncapped bandwidth :D.

If you abuse you lose, simple as that. Fair and good on them for trying to help those who do not abuse.

You are not making sense? Its unlimited uploads. But If I understand what you are trying to say. If you upload at max speed you download the same time about 0.5-1kbs So its highly unlikely that you will reach the 5GB by just uploading. And now this account allows for true 5GB downloading. Cause when you download 5GB about 500-600mb will be uploading. And at R50 per GB its not bad at all.

**The best thing of the account I see that it allows 2 concurrent connections. Sharing ftw!** ** http://www.openweb.co.za/per_gb/ **

Ohh and I think it would be nice with Modern Warfare 2. Cause that game chows uploading bandwidth if you get chosen for a host the whole time.

Unless you're a gamer, I don't see how this will benefit anyone. I don't see much use for P2P, unless you're some kind of bandwidth martyr. Yet another useless "innovation" from OpenWeb. Just cut prices already, stop playing around with all these stupid gimmicks! This is rivaled only by their uncapped for half a month product in sheer uselessness.

just because you don't have a use for it, doesn't mean others don't. Get over yourself. You are not the only person on the planet.

Seriously, what is your problem? I can see many uses for this product. What a pointless post!

For one, if you're hosting a Terminal Server for a few remote branches.

Always has to be a cynic/skeptic/negator to something new/good/valuable... get used to it, something has to cause the equilibrium i guess =P

it's more a "by product" of local uncapped which has been coming for ages now ;)

however this could also be used for someone now needs to send for example data from office A to Office B...cctv also comes to mind.
