Free Virgin internet

I'm sure the "free" GPRS is a deliberate move by VM to attract more customers. When they start billing again (I'm almost willing to bet it will be around 1 January), they will still have the cheapest data rate of all the SA networks, so people won't easily port to another network.

That 'start billing' just started and stopped now it seemed....any one had the same effect maybe?

I'd rather pay 50c/MB for a reliable service than get an unreliable one for free. That's what they really need to sort out.

anybody knows whether virgin has got their act together wrt their billing.

i switched over to adsl about 2 weeks ago, so i havent been taking notice of the vm billing. for the past 3 weeks i know they havent been charging correctly.

have they started charging again ?

Vm is billing again and will be analysing your accounts to charge for all free use.

Not really!;)
Yes it's back to normal with a few more stalling problems than before. I think it's a bit faster, but I'm not sure.

Maybe it's a bit faster due to decreased usage. People tend to use less bandwidth if they actually have to pay for it. I stopped all 30 of my downloads when I realised they started billing me :D

Thays a good one, Skeptic;) . VM being able to do anything would be like a miracle.

But they are back to normal.

Back To Norm

NNNNNNNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!I am being billed again am down to R15.00.The magic has ended and did you know Virgin are unaware? An idiot friend of mine lets just call him Mugabe fo his own safety, called up V and they told him they were unaware and will have technical staff calling him and askim him all kinds of detailed questions.Speed seems faster cause since i have been charged my A time is being chowed at phenominal rates!Still feel it should be free those monkeys!Whos that knocking at my door?No officer it wasnt me MUGABE got it free AAARRGGGHHHHH!!!!

So you were slowing me down :p

Seriously though they seem to be much faster where I am at. Been getting 14 kilobytes a second at all times of the day or night. I would rather pay 50c per meg for a service that is up for more than 15 min a day and gives me okay speeds...

When will we finally HACK for free wap? Is it not enough that we call N send smses with it?

Sorry, I'm not sure what you mean by "enough that we call N send smses with it"? Are you referring to VoIP and online SMS services or am I completely misunderstanding? Or do you mean you can somehow do that for free in another way

My bet is on "referring to VoIP and online SMS services".
Even then I'm still a bit confused what contract-killer is on about.

Hello all you people, i have been following this thread for a while now and i really wana ask, has anyone managed to get free GPRS? most of the post here are quite ambiguous - either some1 has figured out the settings to do it or it cant be done. please can someone set the records straight and tell me if this is achievable.

For now, i will be hoping and praying this can be done; free gprs will definitely be a blessing!! Please someone PM the settings to me.

Oh and with the issue that free gprs = stealing from our poor network operators, i say 'oh pleeeaase' to that. if they didnt know about a hole in their system, then there must be no laws against using the hole. And if there is no law against it, then there is no crime commited. At least thats how i justify it in my mind...

ok,will be watching this post closely for any updates!

You don’t have the settings for VM gprs yet?
Lets fix that...here:
Gateway/IP Address: 196.031.116.242
Port: 9201
APN: vdata
Username and password must be blank.

So easy!

Please re-Read the Thread. You obviously missed about 90% of the posts in here or something. Enjoy! :D

oh, and Merry Xmas to all!

The settings aren't free anymore ;)

Thats the point. Those was free but it was not the settings that made them so but a network 'fault'. There aint 'free' settings for VM. This Thread made it clear.

Just restating the point - obviously "cellular" didn't pick that up from our previous posts. He even sent me a PM asking for the settings :)

Im on holiday in Mosselbay and my virgin internet connection is not that bad only had 2 down links for more than a week.
