Free VoD bandwidth

It is a great idea and one that I have been dreaming of for years but take a look at their movie selection. No blockbuster releases and a lot of second rate movies. If they can increase their selection they may have a shot though.

Solid company! Pricing not that flexible but service wise I must say my experience has been great. :)

And then they go and change the local only accounts to IS backbone with no notification to their clients?!?! Oh wait.....my bad....I memorise IS's IP range so know exactly when they email me about a DNS change that all local accounts will now be running on IS instead of SAIX.

My comment remains!

EDIT: Have a read here

The reasons for this are probably many-fold - but primarily I guess it has to do with the distributor deals that are set up between companies like Nu-Metro and Ster Kinekor and the overseas producers. Until those relationships become more flexible, the iptv movies won't be the latest.

I think it will happen though - just as it is happening with books.

Hmm... me wonders if i should start a VOD service.
my ~9TB series and ~2.5TB movies should go along way.

Now if only i could increase this 600kbps upload limit.. :P

Will they restrict traffic to their video on demand protocol? It would only be attractive if it was uncapped naked internet. Then much easier to download a movie locally than wait for it to come from another overseas service provider. Sheer utility. Time = Money.

R70 to buy a movie?... and I'm guessing thats for the really crappy low budget B grade stuff...

They need to realise that for digital media, a LOW price point is what they should be aiming at... say R30 - R50 a movie, since there are considerably lower logistical costs in terms of them having no physical media, no distribution centres etc etc.. You can get a hell of a lot of GOOD dvd's for between R70 - R130 nowadays....

My 2 points/cents:

a) Whats the point if I can rent a movie round the corner (Rondebosh cafe) for R5 (movies just off circuit like Mall cop etc).

b) DSTV better wake up and see the competition. Imo theres no stopping iptv, its just a matter of when, then watch the migration from rip off DSTV...

Finally

Finally someone is thinking! Now all we need is for an ISP to tie up with Apple & iTunes with local servers and free bandwidth... Movies are supposed to be watched on a TV, not a computer and the Apple TV is the perfect device to do this.

Curious to know what the royalty is for the a new release softcopy of a video,
VoD is perfect for a Hotel, Gated Community (wireless or fiber, cable connect)
Wireless ISP

In a regular video store, the store pays a royalty for the disc itself and one disc
can be viewed at a time unlike VoD where multiple people can view the same
latest release - so you will get the case where the latest video is booked out
on a VOD store
