"Free" Vodacom Internet!

Virgin is cheaper but the sim only works on my phone not my data card.

Virgin Mobile will send you a 128k sim card free of charge. Plus their data rates are far less than Vodacoms (unless you are sure you will be happy to fork out R399 for 3G data every month). Then again, you can only get the "discounted" rate on Vodacom if you get yourself locked into a contract.

EDGE speeds are fine for the average browsing.

Gunny just as vlive is resting in peace you will be to ! Vodacom murdered vlive ! Theres a reward for the murderer.free browsing on vodacom ! Lol.

Why isnt the vlive portal isnt free anymore ? Whats wrong with vodacom.do they want to lose more customers.every time they mess with the damn settings.who is doing this to vlive ! What a damn network.

I don't think they count you as a customer if you're taking their service for free so the answer to your question is probably yes. :D

I would pay very little attention to the comments by KeeS.

The download numbers he quoted is impossible if you do the maths and you understand the network architecture (which he obviously does not).

After his comments, we watched for him (and other abusers) in real-time and built up a nice database of cell numbers who were downloading larges amounts over the VLive apn. (We'll still decide what we'll do with these).

Lastly, the MMS apn is not open, irrespective of what Bobbejaan says.

But his comments were irritating enough that we brought the implementation of the engines forward by a few weeks.

By large amounts you mean 1GB+ per day? So if you are well below that you are safe?

Sounds entertaining. :D Could you backbill them if they were on contract? Or maybe even on prepaid?

This post raises some questions. Should a supposed rep. for Vodacom be using the forum to gather a database of cell numbers? ie. See who posts something he doesn't lagree with, then monitor his activities through the Vodacom network.

This will definitely raise some privacy issues. I doubt whether maintaining such a list would pass any challenge under the data protection act.

Just who is being tracked here??

I don't think there's any indication of that being done. Unless he/Vodacom has access to the MyADSL server logs (doubtful) it'd probably be impossible anyway. Unless they're going to sift through the millions of Vodacom subscribers who use GPRS/3G and track connections to this site? Somehow I doubt it. Think what he was saying is that in light of the comments on the site they put structures in place to monitor data usage on the vlive apn. Obviously if forumites have been using this then they'll be monitored by this process, but it doesn't seem to me as if they're being specially targeted.

Vodacom Tracking Users on MyADSL?

http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showpost.php?p=706228&postcount=469

According to Vodacom3g, certain forumites are being tracked, presumably by watching their posts. Also, their cell numbers are being collated.

This raises questions about forum privacy. This is supposed to be an anonymous forum for a start! Also, if you use a SIM card from a particular network, be it Vodacom or any other, does that give them the right to track your activities??

I'm very uncomfortable with the idea that this type of activity is taking place. I don't have anything to hide, but we need to be aware of what is going on and that it is possible. So if I say "Vodacom sucks", the Vodacom rep on MyADSL here can track my post and link it to a cell number.

Added to this, the various reps often ask for us to PM a name and cellnumber to try and help with problems. Is that list also being used for some purpose?
