If the JAWUG guys are anything like the CTWUG guys they will come do a site-survey at your place as long as you have beer in the fridge.
 
PTAWUG has dedicated testkit - just look on ptawug.co.za for who to mail in your area - they will come and do a test (will cost you a beer or two) :)
 
Little negative here:
I've followed the CTWUG isntructions on the wiki to get hold of the testkit, but I don't see anything coming of it. Maybe I'm following the wrong procedure or maybe the testkit is in high demand?

Yea, none of the current highsites cover Summerstrand unfortunately..
Although I would imagine that line of sight could be achieved between Lovemore Heights and Summerstrand in some places..

If you're interested, it might be a good start to put yourself on the wugplotter on wug.za.net (if you haven't already) to see if there's any other interest in your area.
I can't remember offhand but I think there were already a few placemarks in Summerstrand area the last time I checked on Google Earth.. :)


I actually had my equipment up and running for 4-5 months before I could get connected.. ;)

sorry to hear that no one came back to you regarding the test-kit. Did you plot yourself on http://wind.ctwug.za.net? If so post the node number here or come chat to us on irc irc.ctwug.za.net #ctwug . If the results on wind looks promising we can arrange a date and I will personally come do a site-survey at your place.

My flat is low down the hill close to the beach. Will just need to get permission from the Body Corporate before i can put antennas on the roof.
I've registered and plotted my position if you want to go and have a look.
 
Sadly im in a big frikken hole and dont have LOS to anyone so bang goes any chance of joining the dbn wug. unless i erect a 50m pole in my back garden that is and since theres an airport nearby thats a nono
