Freehand/Coreldraw performance on Intel Mac?

Hi guys

I want to order a MBP 17". It will be the first Intel Mac at the office and the idea is to test the Intel move before we buy more MBP's and Mac Pro's. The main issue is Creative Suite, which is running poorly on our (now ageing) G4's and I want to see if it's not similar or better under Rosetta until CS3 becomes available.

I just want to know if any of you have experience with Macromedia Freehand MX on an Intel Mac. Does it run fine or should I not even consider it?
Another (less important) program is (the dreaded) Coreldraw. Anybody running that with Parallels on a Mac?

I know none of these solutions are the fastest computing options available but I just want to know if it's bearable/useable.

All the reports I've seen say CS2 is faster on the intel, under rosetta, than on the older non intel machines - esp the G4s. When Adobe finally releases a Universal it should fly. I'm keeping my current Powerbook until they get around to releasing it but that's just me.

As for Corel - well that's crap regardless of the OS

CS2 under rossetta seems to perform similarly to CS2 running on a G5. So you should see a performace boost from your G4's and once CS3 comes out, a very big boost

Yes, I will also be keeping my trusty old Powerbook around.

If CS2 currently performs the same as it does on PowerPC, I'm ordering those Mac Pro's as soon as possible! This is good news indeed.

Corel is unfortunately an occasional evil that we have to support. Luckily we are slowly moving out of that market. I just thought that the PC's can be used elsewhere if I can get Corel to run on the Intel Macs. It will also help unclutter the (overcrowded) pre-press area if we can get rid of half the computers.

So you guys think Freehand will also perform well? I don't see Adobe bringing out a universal of Freehand when Illustrator will become universal, but I am sure many design agencies will still be using it for quite a while. Maybe I should keep a couple of G4's around for that. (Don't want to though !)

CS2 runs as well on my MBP 17" (2.16ghz + 2GB RAM) as it did on my PowerBook 17" (1.67ghz) - No noticeable increase or decrease in performance.

Freehand works just as well on my MBP as well.

No problems there, and with CS3 next year + Leopard it'll be enven better

Thanks. I will be ordering my 17" Macbook Pro later this month. Good news about Freehand. I currently use a 1.67 Powerbook 15" and if Performance are going to be the same in Rosetta and better in the future, I can't wait!
