I am a graphic designer with 10 years experience working in the signage industry and have recently gone freelance. I'm most interested in broadening my skill set with web design.
I've been going through some basic tutorials on HTML & CSS and am getting to grips with the bootstrap framework. I've been working for the last few years with various people on a part time basis doing mock-up wireframes of website designs, so I've got a good understanding of the various components and how they all fit together. My experience with graphic design had helped as I've been able to compliment the mock-up work with various illustrations, info-graphics and logos as needed.
What I would like to do is get involved with the local web service / development companies more so that I am able to practice what I have been learning on the coding side too. I am really unsure of where to start with this and I've been finding it difficult to get through to the companies that require the services that I offer. I have posted ads on gumtree but the feedback is slow, been phoning some companies and have had some success but it's not really sustainable. I know about freelancer but it is not really what I want to get involved with at this stage as i am looking to build up relationships with local businesses.
Would anyone care to share some tips relating to how I could market and get through to companies that would make use of a freelance graphic / web designer?
