so those of you running a HP Micro server... You running FreeNAS? Windows 7?

I was running windows 7 and I find that its quite sluggish and besides.. I dont have a legal copy, so I deleted it.

Going to install FreeNAS tonight and see how things go. What would you recommend as a guide?

I looked about on the net, and the FreeNAS portion looks simple enough, but you need a load of command lines for the other sections. Im worried that the guides I found online will be out of date (URL's for the commands)

I see also that a new version of FreeNAS is out 8.0.4 and none of the guides refer to a SABnzb + SB setup on that version..

pointers?

ta :)

Recently went through this whole experience and as a relative noob it was quite a mission. I have compiled a guide using various online resources and added my own notes as I learned along the way. Managed to get everything working on FreeNAS 8.04. Hope this helps you. As I said, I take no credit for this guide. All credit goes to the various authors. Enjoy :)

The reason I like Unraid is the fact that ALL drives in the system become data drives, and you can add drives of various sizes etc etc..

Granted to use more than 2 drives requires you buying a license, but hell at +- R600 you can have a 6 drive redundant array... i think thats bloody good value for money.

Big thanks for this guide dude. Really helpful and informative.

Have you found a way yet to get SABNZBD, Sickbeard, etc... to start when FreeNAS reboots?

is it possibly to do this on an external hard drive that is plugged in to a router?

It should be possible if Freenas can se the HDD and you mount it as a volume. This method seems outdated though and does not seem to support couch potato v2. Refer to Mike's thread here: http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthr...-SABnzbd-Sickbeard-and-Headphones-Setup-Guide. The bonus with the plugin system is that you don't require a startup script, I'm still trying to figure out a few kinks but Mike seems to have it working fine. Good luck :)
