French Elections 2017

Yet France's total from 2014 to 2016 sits at over 100,000 (http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-34131911)

That puts France roughly 4th in Europe in terms of who let the most migrants in, so again, the criteria for asylum must not be very strict or they've not been applied in the last 3 years. On the upside, France is much better at curbing the flow than the crazy Germans with their half a mil influx.

If a migrant is rejected. What is the success rate of repatriation?
My guess its very low.

Not sure about the success rate but slightly less than 30000 were expelled in 2015.

That makes roughly:

85000 applications in 2016
20000 accepted
30000 migrants expelled
And there are the ones appealing the first rejection who cannot be expelled until the appeal is finalized (can't find the number).

30000 migrants expelled?

Did they leave or were they asked politely to leave but stayed anyway?

Édouard Philippe is prime minister. So we have a right prime minister.

And for Patrick: he's 194 cm.

Government announcement delayed to tomorrow, apparently to check the tax compliance of all appointees.

Government announced.

It's quite balanced between parties.

A real ecologist is at the energy transition ministry which is good.

Keys positions go to experienced people while less important ministries go to newer faces which is good as well.

I expected him to put way more socialists in place (and happy that he didn't).

At least one forecast sees En Marche! taking a Parliamentary majority.

Marine Le Pen abandons Frexit crusade 'error'

Marine Le Pen is to abandon all plans to leave the European Union and restore the French franc, accepting that her high-risk strategy has proved a costly error for the party.

The Front National’s leadership will hold a forum after the parliamentary elections next month to thrash out an entirely new policy.

“There will be no Frexit. We have taken note of what the French people told us,” said Bernard Monot, the party’s chief economic strategist.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

President Emmanuel Macron will ask France’s parliament to extend a state of emergency, in place since the 2015 attacks by Islamic State (IS) group militants, following this Monday’s suicide bombing in Manchester.France’s new president said in a statement that he will ask lawmakers to prolong the measure from July 15, its current expiration date, until November 1. It would be the sixth extension of the state of emergency, which gives police exceptional powers.

He made the decision after a security meeting Wednesday in which top officials "studied the implications of this new terrorist attack on measures of protection to ensure the security of our compatriots".The statement from the Elysée presidential palace once again noted “the bonds that unite France and the United Kingdom in the fight against terrorism”. An improvised explosive device was detonated at a concert at the Manchester Arena on Monday evening, killing as many as 22 young people, as well as the attacker. The deadly blast was claimed by the IS group on Tuesday, but a lack of details about the incident shed doubt on whether the Islamist extremists had really organized or ordered the attack.

Macron also asked his government to prepare draft legislation to reinforce security measures permanently beyond the state of emergency.
