More than 400 people were hurt, 14 seriously, in a day and night of "yellow vest" fuel price protests around France that claimed one life, interior minister Christophe Castaner said on Sunday.
The injury toll, more than double the last tally provided on Saturday, followed a "restive" night in 87 locations around the country where protesters had blocked roads to express their anger at a series of hikes in petrol tax.
The injured, 409 in total, included 28 members of the police, military police, and fire brigade.
Castaner told RTL radio about 288,000 people had taken part in Saturday's protests at 2,034 locations countrywide. About 3,500 stayed out overnight, he added.
Police questioned 282 protesters in total, 73 during the night, of which 157 were taken into custody.

Soooo .... they pay about R10 per liter more than us while earning in a currency worth 16 times what a ZAR is worth and that is enough to have a mass protest where people get killed?

We're doing it wrong down here ...

Many turned their anger on President Emmanuel Macron, who they accuse of being out-of-touch. He is yet to comment on the protests, and has seen his popularity slump in polls.

The president came to power last year vowing to overhaul the French economy and argues the hikes are needed to wean the French people off fossil fuels.

The government has announced a number of measures to help poorer families pay their energy and transport bills.

But the government always knows better and taxes are always done for the good of the proles.

The Frogs love protesting...makes some of our local protests pale in comparison.

Pity they are a bunch of surrender monkeys when it comes to actual fighting! ;)

They don't earn 16x more though. Besides it would not be there price itself but the rate at which the price is going up.

They're still under their historic highs, but the most recent surge has been over the past two years, up by 40%.

Now compare that to South Africa's fuel price rise: up 50% over that same period in USD terms, then you factor in the ZAR weakening and it looks way worse i.t.o. price rise rate.

Yet the French can put a proper protest together and we cannot.

the EFF could sure use some culture and learn how to protest from the french,

they do protests with style....

EFF's last mass protest to the Union Buildings went without a hitch. The numbers were much more than this...

So if Saffers block roads and burn tires they're savages, but if the French do it it's okay?
Oui, sacrebleu!

Besides, when the French get off their asses for anything and/or stand up to something instead of surrendering their homeland it is definitely newsworthy.

Stop spouting ignorance based on a severe lack of knowledge as well as "jokes" seen and heard on American and British TV/movies.

Looks like we hit a nerve, French are we?

If so this sudden jolt of bravery will be short lived, you're probably readying that white flag as we speak :p

Triggering confirmed

Also, and this may be a shock to you seeing as you prefer to jump to conclusions, but my WW2 knowledge stems from books and documentaries, not Hollywood. Even in the factual, objective, accounts the French come off as surrender monkeys, worse: f-ing designed an "impenetrable" defensive line that could only shoot effectively in one direction.

And let's not even get started on those who ran an "independent" government kowtowing to their Nazi masters.

So add "stupid" and "treasonous scum" to the achievement list along with surrender monkeys ;)
