French yellow vest protests

Triggering confirmed

Also, and this may be a shock to you seeing as you prefer to jump to conclusions, but my WW2 knowledge stems from books and documentaries, not Hollywood. Even in the factual, objective, accounts the French come off as surrender monkeys, worse: f-ing designed an "impenetrable" defensive line that could only shoot effectively in one direction.

And let's not even get started on those who ran an "independent" government kowtowing to their Nazi masters.

So add "stupid" and "treasonous scum" to the achievement list along with surrender monkeys ;)

What happened in France was such a complicated situation, I do not even know where to start.

The choice between full out war and armistice, so as to save millions of lives, has always been a battle between emotions and common sense.

When France declared war on Germany on September 3, 1939, following the German invasion of Poland, the French military spent eight months watching and waiting for the first strike. The so-called “Phoney War” ended abruptly in May, when Germany’s Blitzkrieg burst upon the French.

Within weeks, the Germans had pushed their way deep into France, and the French government was forced to make an impossible decision: regroup in their North African colonies and keep fighting, or sign an armistice with Germany.

The German troops occupied the northern half of the country, taking 2 million French soldiers as prisoners of war.

The "surrender" was political and spearheaded by the Vichy government under Chief of State Marshal Philippe Pétain. Political decisions cannot be used to call a whole nation cowards.

The French resistance fighters sacrificed many lives to fight the Germans and I think about 40 000 French soldiers lost their lives at Dunkirk, defending the trapped British until they could be rescued.

France fuel protests: Police in Paris fire tear gas

Police in Paris have used tear gas and water cannon to disperse protesters, in a second weekend of demonstrations sparked by rising fuel prices.

Violence erupted on the Champs-Elysées as protesters tried to get through a security cordon around sensitive sites.

About 5,000 protesters had converged on the avenue. At least 18 people were arrested after clashing with police.

Organisers of the "yellow jacket" movement billed the latest protests as "act two" in their rolling campaign.

Named after their distinctive high-visibility attire, the protesters oppose an increase in fuel duty on diesel.

Demonstrators on the Champs-Elysées came up against metal barriers and a police-enforced perimeter that stopped them reaching key buildings such as the prime minister's official residence.

Gotta get money for those wind farms and immigrants from somewhere... ah let's screw over our tax payers, it works so well anyway.

i like how they handled their e-toll type gantries too.

at least there is sense behind their protests

Besides, when the French get off their asses for anything and/or stand up to something instead of surrendering their homeland it is definitely newsworthy.

You could say people tend to lose their heads over it when there's a French uprising.

The difference in France is the politicians actually pay attention and things change or they are voted out. Here noone cares, nothing much happens and the politicians stay the same.

Surprised you endorse the strike. Don't forget "they voted the current lot into government". :)

Soooo .... they pay about R10 per liter more than us while earning in a currency worth 16 times what a ZAR is worth and that is enough to have a mass protest where people get killed?

We're doing it wrong down here ...[/QUOTE]

Saffas like to "k@k en betaal" They'll rather just whinge about it over the braaivleis.

No looting, no killings? WTF protest is this? Send the protesters to South Africa for lessons

We've had much larger protests/marches without any looting or killings (you're a joke). Just because the French are protesting abd burning stuff, you're now mentioning killing as if it happens in every march.

Of course I don't expect facts from any of your posts.

are you trying to draw comparison between their government and ours..?

i dont endorse a "strike culture". build a bit, strike for wages, rinse repeat. neither do i agree with biting your nose to spite your face ..critical public infrastructure etc. or organised looting under the guise of protesting.

burning down schools and hospitals and libraries, deliberately, actively targeting the infrastructure, benefits nobody

compared to protesting against high fuel prices or e-toll gantries, benefits everybody

their intent and consequences seem wildly different, dont you think..

Personal attack + bait thread derail post, noted. Inciting replies like yours are against the forum rules!
My reply did not attack any forum member. It merely underlined the violent behaviour of South African protest marches. I see, it touched you on the "studio". I am sorry for that. It was not my intention.

Nothing stops you from RBP'ing my posts if you feel aggrieved.

I don't really care about violent/looting marchers and personally, I think the police are lenient towards them. However, your posts are never meant to be objective. You hardly comment in anything that doesn't support your biased view of the world.

Until there's there's measure of objectivity in your posts...
