Fridge Compressor Always Running

I have changed the seal/gaskets to new ones, old ones were completely torn, a bit better but it still seems to always run. It does switch off for a while but then runs again for hours. Fridge is cold inside with no ice build up or water, so everything else is functioning fine and seems to defrost just fine. Does it have something to do with the defrost?

What must I look at next that will cause the compressor to always run?

Thermostat? (It does eventually switch off?)

I have lowered the temperature as well as increased it. Same problem.

Did you clean out the condensor coils? Did you completely defrost the fridge as well? Made sure it's not close to the wall? Is the fridge empty?
My newer double door fridge actually runs a bit more then my old fridge but it's still more energy efficient, I think newer fridges do run more?

Is it possible for you to time this, so I can compare it to mine?
Also: A fridge tech told me once that some models don't have a thermostat. The dial is more of a timer. How true this is, I dunno.

I can't remember that it used to run this much. I haven't cleaned any coils. I defrosted it not too long ago. Will try again. It is not an expensive fridge.
Looks like this.

I'll have to check.

why is it bugging you? is it using lots of energy or making a noise? from what you say about the seals it must be quite old?

Gee whiz Viking! We have almost the exact same fridge :D Mine is C365.

I guess it just shouldn't run that long/often. But then again: mine also runs almost every time I walk past it...
 Maybe I shouldn't walk past it that often, then it might run less?
:ROFL: I will find a way to time it and see if it is normal or not.

Okay, so I just timed mine. It was only off for 30-45 mins and then started again. I should also point out that I quickly opened it once in the past hour (for milk, not whiskey).
 I should've gone for the whiskey.

Nevertheless, I don't think there's anything wrong with your fridge. I've had a fridge in the past that NEVER switched off, so this is not all that bad. Also, this fridge (and probably yours too) is very light on power. I went away for two weeks and left only the fridge on, and it consumed almost no electricity. Not bad in my books

Well it never used to run this long when on. And I think it uses more power now because it runs so long. It is better now that I replaced the seals as it stays off for longer. But when it comes back on it runs for quiet a while. So something tells me it doesn't switch off at the right time or when it reached the right temperature. I might be wrong of course.

Take a look at your seals. It should stay of for a couple of hours at least.

@Meelperd this was the old seal/gasket. It is not supposed to be split like this,so the fridge didn't keep its vacuum and air.

Thanks for the pics. Mine are still in perfect condition, and has a mean vacuum like Electrolux (or Monica Lewinsky for that matter).
It just switched off now, I'll time it...

 Sorry Viking! It was off for about 90mins. But there might be other factors at play here, which will render our test invalid:
  • The temperature in your home (specifically kitchen)
  • The amount of times you open the door, and for how long.
  • The amount of stuff you have in your fridge
  • ...
Also, how will we ever find out if your fridge is actually running abnormally long? Like you said: it used to run less, but how do we determine if it is still in an acceptable range? How do we measure this? I think only the "cooler" guys might know more on that.

Just a side note, I recently bought a Bosch AllIntelligent fridge second hand. The compressor never turned off and the thing became a freezer. Replaced the thermistat and it works like a charm now and is very very light on power. Stays more off than on and if I read the label correctly , only draws an average of 18w\h.

I see a new version is rated 110.00 kWh/annum

If it's an inverter fridge one should expect it to run more, if not in fact permanently.

I think I'm gonna start with the thermostat. Will open the parts that can be opened and see what it uses. Haven't had the time yet to time the off and on times.
