Frogfoot is installing fibre in our area. While I have received an excellent quotation from MWeb for fibre via Frogfoot (MWeb is my current service provider), I see that Frogfoot is getting poor reviews in Hello Peter: https://www.hellopeter.com/frogfoot-fibre.
Do they actually deliver reliable service? Is it worthwhile going this route?

Well, Frogfoot laid the cables and went live 1st of this month. I switched from an 8meg ADSL to a 20meg Fibre line, stayed with my current ISP(Afrihost), and everything was seamless. A couple of things. Frogfoot have an optimistic view of their Go Live date for your area. Don't get carried away by the original date. My area was originally July, ended up being September. Just keep visiting their website and view their progress in your area via the map. Only start ordering once your area is Blue(Live). Once I ordered with Afrihost, the installers came the same week, and my free modem arrived the following week. The only issue I've had is the very soul-destroying attemp to cancel my Telkom line - still not managed to cancel.
So all in all, a great experience, and a big thumbs up to Frogfoot and Afrihost.

Just one other thing. I was a bit disappointed with my World of Warcraft latency. On ADSL i had about 220ms. After the Fibre installation it only went down to 180ms, hardly an earth-shattering improvement - EU server.

Generally from reading the forum their network doesn't seem too bad.

They had issues a few weeks back with congestion but at least they identified it and admitted the problem and fixed it.
There are horror stories of other providers taking months to sort this out or even admit it.

Are you on wifi or lan cable? I see people mention 165-180ms normally for EU, you wont get much better than that with the speed of light etc

Edit: here are some graphs from a datacenter in NL to a few SA servers, 173-191ms

Thanks, Leno. Ja, i suspected that it can't really improve much. I use a cable, but i suspect the wifi will be the same. Ah well, 180ms is not bad, it's not like i'm playing a FPS.

40ms is a huge improvement; beyond that you're trying to bend physics. Latency is literally the time it takes for a packet to travel between point A and B in the world. Light only travels so fast and there's an incredible distance it needs to travel between Ysterfontein/Mtunzini and London/Marseilles. Then if you're inland, light still needs to travel quite a distance back to you.

Think of those 40ms as the 40 ms that ageing copper added to your connection causing heaps of headaches.

Hi All, if you are experiencing any issues on the Frogfoot network, please make sure to contact your Internet Service Provider first, they can provide a reference number and you can inbox us directly with the number.

Ok, good info, thanks :)

Have been waiting for a Frogfoot installer to install FTTH since 10am (Frogfoot's installer made the appointment and confirmed it), its now almost 14:30pm... so far just a lot a promises saying they will be there.

Lets see how this Friday ends, and if this business relationship is cancelled before it even begins.

First of all its just disrespectful to make an appointment and not keep it. Then to be 4 hours late...

So many levels at which this commodity's ball can be dropped.

1. Network Provider
2. Network providers sub contractor for installs
3. ISP

I had a similar issue when they did my install. Patience and understanding is key though I think. Earlier scheduled jobs sometimes require a lot more effort when they get to site which pushes their timings off. I guess this goes for all providers.

Does Frogfoot usually take so long to install??? Our Fibre went live the 02 October already and order has been placed with ISP and then i was told that Frogfoot will contact me with regards to installation, but i haven't heard anything from them yet.

Was a long wait from scheduled time but eventually installed and activated.

Bumping an elderly thread here - anyone with recent experience of Frogfoot fibre in the George area? I've seen some horrifying reviews on Hello Peter but most do not specify which area they're in.

@Frogfoot Fibre is the worst company I have dealt with in my life.
If you see their name + HL Telecoms and Construction (Pty) Ltd - run as far away as you can.
Hi Anthro. Thank you for your message. Can you please send us a PM with your details and the nature of your complaint and we will look into this for you.
