FTP Problems

I'm also in Cape Town. Can you PM me details and I can try and emulate your problem?
I replied to your email last night, did you not receive it or do you require further details?

That was one of my main problems as well and then my server admin determined that for some reason my IP keeps on changing like once per minute while I am connected. That can be your problem as well. See my post at http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthread.php?t=82187
They definitely seem related.
I had problems where secure sites (especially my server control panel) kept on logging me out.
My server control panel also logs me out, I assumed that it was just timing out.

Ask your server admin if they can keep an eye on your error log file while you are trying to work in your control panel. Each time your control panel logs you out, just log in again and try to continue working. Let your server admin see if they can determine your IP as you continue working. Make sure you stay connected to the 3G connected during this test.

v3g: Any news on this? I haven't been able to test today, I keep getting 619 errors when attempting to connect. Have had to swap in my Virgin Mobile SIM to post this.

FTP very Crap (for lack of a better word)

hsdpa on option nozomi in a pcmcia to pci bridge (Ricoh chipset) on p4 HT 3gig with a gig of ram etc etc. fairly standard setup.

EXCEPT FOR THE FACT THAT I HAVE THE WORST FTP EXPERIENCE EVER IN THE WHOLE WORLD! Broswing the net is great. kinda like the female reproductive cycle - on for most of the month, off during the end...

I am sick to death of the crap FTP service. Please tell me there is a setting on this pc i can change to make this work, otherwise i'll be forced to believe that i would have been better off waiting for a telkom adsl installation, than quickly popping into my local vodacom data store.

I cannot connect to "selected" ftp servers - including one of my integrally important servers where the bulk of my important work is supposed to take place. I say 'supposed to' because i cannot connect to the server to obtain a simple little file to continue my work.

I am spitting fire, most of which my poor family has to absorb. Hopefully they dont blame me too much, hopefully they blame vodacom, or some or other equally retarded service provider.

Why don't you mail me the details and I can test and escalate?

@sevenworth, have you tried the [searchforum]"internetvpn APN"[/searchforum], it may or may not make a difference, what APN are you using ATM? [by default it would be the internet APN unless you have specified another APN to use]

Also, what is your upload speed like from within Vodacom's network [assuming that you're not downloading via ftp]? - http://speed.vodacom.co.za/ - one problem I found when using a data card in a PCMCIA<-->PCI adapter in a PC, was that I had to have the data card and its little clip-on external antenna carefully positioned facing a window, otherwise the data card couldn't transmit its own signal back to the base-station...

There is another thread about ftp issues, might be you're experiencing the same problems, which I suspect might be due to dodgy Telkodemonopolies-SAIX international connectivity - where are the servers located that you're trying to get connected to via ftp?

Been having a frustating time uploading to Hetzner's FTP in Germany the last week - active/passive mode, Filezilla, internet APN. However, finally getting some joy now with an old trial copy of FTP Voyager in active mode. Can't see any notable differences in my settings on it and Filezilla, but the latter still times out on LIST - tried both at the same time on the same connection multiple times. Here's hoping it holds...

Better experience

Gee I thought Vodacom got this fixed because its been working fine for me for a week or so :p (I dont want to speak too soon). Nothing has changed on my side (using internet apn) except I upgraded from Mobile Connect to Mobile Partner.

Still battling with FTP

We have been getting for the last few days a lot of FTP disconnects, and illegal port commands on FTP to the local Hetzner servers. They have assured us their is nothing wrong on their side. We switched from passive mode to active mode (using the latest Filezilla), and the problems remained.

This was on internet APN. We switched to internetVPN APN, and: problem solved.

Sigh. Please Vodacom, solve this now or tell us what is going on.

Edit: added information: The issue and resolution is the same for our two similiar USB Huawei E220 modems, one running the original Mobile Connect, and the other on Mobile Partner. We are on contracts.

I also have an outstanding query on this matter, even gave v3g an FTP account for testing purposes. I figured Vodacom have enough problems at the moment and that they'd get to it once their major problems had been resolved.

@v3g: FTP been working perfectly for me lately, thanks!

For the benefit of the forum's search facility... FTP = File Transfer Protocol

At the time when we had the problems I tested various ftp programs including cute ftp and it also gave the same problems. I have not had any problems with ftp since I switched to the InternetVPN.

For what it's worth ... I do FTP transfers on a daily basis, using CuteFTP, and have never run into any of the problems mentioned. :)
Are you on pre-paid or contract?

I'm on pre-paid and it's now working again on the 'internet' APN.
