I cannot determine from sales agents or the Internet what happens to the landline if I adopt FTTH. I get answers such as "its not needed" or "its not included"

What I understand, please correct me if I am wrong, is that a FTTH, from Telkom, includes an ONT device which the analogue phone plugs into and uses the data purchased in the contract for telephone calls. (??)

From other FTTH providers, I understand is that they provide FTTH but no land line facility. This means that if I want to keep a land line, I will have to keep the analogue line as well as the FTTH line (??)

Please clarify, as the two options have vastly different cost implications.

PS: I have to go to FTTH, both my land and ADSL line are extremely slow and unreliable, Telkom and my ISP has be working for months on the problem to no avail.

Many thanks to those that respond, it is greatly appreciated

It all depends on the FTTH operator, some FTTH operators use ONT's with POTS ports build into the device I am with MFN and my ONT has 2,
if this is so, you would need a VOIP operator that works with the your FTTH provider to organise your Telkom number to be ported (if that's what you want) or just to set you up with a NON geographic number 087 or geographic 010 etc.

Other operators would only be able to offer a similar VOIP service that requires the use of an IP phone.

You could use something like this http://www.comx-computers.co.za/GS-...IP-Analogue-Telephone-Adapter-Buy-p-64567.php with any providers VOIP service. It basically provides an FSO (in other words an analogue telephone port) port that can be linked to a VOIP service and has an REN of 5, so can wring upto 5 standard telephones connected to that one port. This is what I intend to do once I get my fibre installed.
