FTTH in Somerset West petition

We are trying to get a list of interested parties together so that ISP's will start to look at Somerset West as a FTTH target.
All the ISPs I have spoken to want to see how many would potentially go for their service.
Please sign this petition if you live in Somerset West and are interested in FTTH.
 
do you live in a gated village / complex / estate?
 
That is not the only criteria. They will also look at a block of houses if enough people in that block(s) show interest.
It will not be easy, and would probably take months to complete the project.

The biggest problem is to highlight the positives of FTTH, and inform people what it is and why it is a positive thing.
 
if you live in an estate, speak to morne @ multi automation. his offices are in hibernian towers, beach road, strand

vodacom are launching ftth in somerset west. so far 13 estates have signed up for ftth rollout form vodacom. i'm driving the project for high riding estate in sir lowrys pass. hopefully in the next few months we will be live with 100mbs ftth

so - are you in an estate / complex?

yeah- best bet would be to canvass the neighbourhood and see how many signups you can get

It is just sad that:
1. You have convince people that they need to get rid of Telkom
2. The advantages of FTTH
3. Do the ISPs job in doing marketing for them, and then they can still turn you down in the end.
 
90% of people are not tech inclined. they dont care if their email downloads 25x faster, they care about what they are paying now vs what fibre will cost.

sad but true. for the tech minority of the public which frequents mybb, its a no brainer, but for general public, they see no real reason to convert from what already works for them
 
I stay in somerset sereno complex in somerset west business park. So badly want to get fibre here. Dont know where to start to get body corp interested.
 
Somerset Sereno is managed by Faircape. Faircape have their own ISP. Our dealings with them have led us to believe that nobody puts fibre into a Faircape complex, other than Faircape.

Six years ago we had four hotspots in Sereno. Faircape had us remove all but one. Even that's hobbled, as the antennas are hidden in a ceiling and the small backhaul antenna's struggling to deal with all the interference in the area.

The whole system is silly. Especially when you think that we have 100Mb ftth literally on the other side of Derrik Drive.

Actually, it's not silly. It's sickening.

Likewise me - from where I am in Westridge it's give or take 350m up the road. Anybody else in the area know if there's an existing residents/ratepayers 'expression of interest' to any ISP's that I can add my voice to?
 
I have a DFA fibre line running literally in front of my house - however I am unable to connect to it due to "reasons" :p

What do you think could be done to increase awareness of the possibility of FTTH for Somerset West?
 
IIRC, eben (owner of cape connect) used (or still does) stay in heritage park

so yeah - you guys are nicely situated

out of interest, what package are you on and what do you pay

Ahem...

We live in Illiare. Just up the road from the elderly where you and I built that UniFi network.

The fibre only went into Heritage Park about a year after we'd moved out. Until then they were on 17GHz back to our POP in the middle of Somerset West. That 17GHz link now connects my home to Helderberg. As you probably saw on my FB, we now have fibre all the way to the top of Helderberg :)

I'm not sure who this client is - will ask Jason and Duval - but I suspect he's on the 50Mb FTTH. We only have two or three people there on that package. The 20Mb is the one most people go for.
