I'm in Rivonia, asked Fibrehoods to install CPE and they advised that I have to sign with an ISP first. Signed up with iConnect...

Seems to be some confusion between the ISP and Fibrehoods....but will see how long it takes...

I see Vumatel is deploying fibre on Achter road. I'd rather wait for Vumatel than go with Greencom given the feedback here.

Is there a case for getting the landlord to pay for installation or is it something I take with when I move? I'm guessing the former.

Its not something you can take with you except for the router/ont

I'm in Ashwood Manor, Holkam Road near the Rietfontein nature reserve. SADV just finished access into the complex so I signed up with CISP yesterday, now awaiting SADV to do the install. Anyone have the latest lead time for SADV after sign up?

I'm also in Ashwood. Signed up about 3 weeks ago when they had their open day at the club house. It seems the delay all depends on them getting access to any of the units that are below you. This week Monday I called them to see what was potting. They told me that they were waiting for a reply from the lady in the flat below me. So I called her up and organised with her and SADV to install fibre into both our units today. Now tomorrow CISP shouild be sending me my router to plug into the Gigapoint behind the TV and all going well I will be surfing the Net this week.
:D

PS: I was holding out for Vuma but doesnt look like they will be making it into Ashwood any time soon, so SADV and CISP will have to do the trick.

Same here on the units below me! Mariam at SADV has apparently been trying to contact the tenants of the 2 units below me, but I'm losing hope and will go speak to them myself this evening.

I want my fibre :crying:

I was lucky with there only being one person below me so was easier to organise. Worth the effort though. Mariam needed alot of phone calls to keep her on track but got it all sorted in 2 days with SADV and had my router delivered Thursday from CISP, plugged it in and was good to go. Basic 10 meg line seems very stable so far.

The important thing to tell the people below you is that SADV will pull the fiber into their units as well and ultimately boost the value of their units at no charge. Its really a no brainer.

I've had some success! Spoke to both tenants below me and they were very accommodating, it seems Mariam is a bit slow on her side. I've fired off a mail to her with deets on when the tenants can give access. Let's hold thumbs that I can get this resolved this week!

Please take some photos on install
I would like to see how this is done in a complex.
Tx

SADV used the phone line conduits.

CISP router was delivered by 11am the next day (Friday) and I was up and running as soon as I got home from work. Loving my fibre so far :D

For those running greencom for a couple of months, anything to report?

Been with them for 3-4 weeks now. Here are some of my thoughts and experiences so far:
1. 6pm onwards I'm getting ~5mbps where I'm paying for 25 (I'm not even a downloader) so it's not like I'm abusing the network.

2. The routers they provide don't have dual band, so no 5Ghz wifi. Getting pathetic wireless speeds on 2.4GHz most probably due to overlapping channels, and there's absolutely nothing I can do about it. For such a hefty installation fee, you get very little out of it....

3. As per Greencom agreement, you don't have access to the routers they install. So setting up policies such as VPN, QoS, Bandwidth shaping, or even just troubleshooting is a no go. Vox gave me a router with all the bells and whistles i.e dual band, AC, DSL(not that i need it) and WAN ports, and the rights to configure the router however I please. From my discussion with the technician that "installed" the router, he made some condescending statement that people don't know anything about networking, and so they end up "breaking" things. This is most probably the reason why they prohibit access to the equipment. Sooooo i guess I'll have to get my own router, have them configure a route to mine, so that I can manage my own network.

4. Their support. I'm currently experiencing terrible download speeds in the afternoons (might be related to point 2). The issue is that they would ask you to do something like a speedtest, or whatever, via their ticket system. Then they don't interact with the tickets at night. So any normal person that works at office during the day, wont get to perform the tasks as requested until they get home, at which they won't be replying until the next day. Essentially, this means that your issues might stretch on for quite a while.

On the bright side, you get "unshaped" and uncapped at a great price. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I am 4 days in and I think I am going to ask for my money back. It seems I am not the only person experiencing the totally CRAP speeds on their network. See my post (from the other "Greencom" thread) below:

MFN do not manage Layer 3 for us. We are now live on most other fibre networks as well. We are a full ISP.

1. Can you explain to me why my speeds are so bad during most times of the day? Why does the network perform so badly most times of the day? Also refer to my post the other day for even more bad speed tests.

2. Is this normal for your services to perform like this? If so at what times of the day is your network super slow and when is it not?

3. Can I cancel the contract and get my money back (R1710 "installation" cost and the R950 first month fee or at least some of it) if this cannot be resolved? My account got activated 12 May 2017 so it's been 4 days now total.

Also something funny: I see you removed the "Unshaped" claim from your website.

Torrents also completely die after doing only 1.5Gb and then seems to 'reset' again after some time.

The only time so far that I've gotten a proper 50mbps/50mbps speed test result was at 7AM :crylaugh:

I am paying for 50mbps and I too am getting speeds as crap as 5mbps. Reading your post I am now convinced that it's not an issue at my house but rather it's just Greencom that is totally crap.

Now to ask for my money back..

So is Greecom your ISP too or are you with VOX? Why did VOX give you a router?
