I am starting to think 123net if a fly-by-night company. Can't say they are showing much interest in the area and they expect the residents to do all their marketing for them.
Companies like Vumatel at least show some support and provide free flyers.

Has anybody seen this site http://paulshoffibre.co.za/

This is greencom, they are busy in Sunninghill and they are actually busy installing fibre. Like people have stated before, 123net seems like a myth. There is almost no feedback from people that are actually using their services. Do they actually exist.

Don't let Swa hear you say that... :p

Get ready to be called a fanboy who does not know what he is talking about and should stay off the forums, even if you are only stating the truth.

Didn't know about greencom and metrofibre.

I have signed up.
Let's see what happens.

Yeah, let's all sign up. Maybe we will get more interest from them.
They also have some users on this forum with speedtest results and everything. So far the feedback seems good.

I have signed Up. 123net is too slow. A colleague of mine uses Greencom and has had nothing but great service and support. Happy if they can help us out!

Yes there are people who posted speedtests here. Fibre would be completely the wrong line of business for a fly-by-night operation.

So what is the promotion they talk about in the email?

I understand the contract length and type offered on page 2.
I have tried to make myself familiar with the t and c pages.

Comments on this scenario would be appreciated :
I sign the contract , dated 13nov15 and send it back (for ease let's label this date as customer commit date.

Commencement date is unknown because 123net needs 350 signed contracts before they make the investment. This may take 5 days, 5 weeks or 5 months. Who knows!!!

I interpret this as I am committed to 123net from the customer commit date while noting that payments start from commencement date.

While in the period between customer commit date and commencement date, I cannot terminate if there is an alternative that can deliver the service earlier or if I change my mind and want an alternate service.

Based on my interpretation , Clause 3.2 is contradictory to the concept of "month to month". I would expect month to month to commence from commencement date and termination to not be linked to the initial period.

So I asked the 123net team about the t and c in the contract ( refer above) via email .

Here is the response I got :

"Dear Sir,

We have a strong feeling that you are a lawyer or you intend to be one. We shall transfer your juridical comments to our legal department. In the meantime we highly appreciate your comments but please be informed that we do not intend any legal binding commitment prior the connection process at your home is over. We trust that you are going to remain our committed client and in the meantime if you have any other legal matters to comment we will put you in contact with our legal department.

Best regards,
123NET Team"

I don't know.

But the conclusion I have arrived at : is that I won't be signing up with 123net now or in the immediate future.

Rather than being an early adopter, I will be a late follower.
I'm happy with my 3G connection and 10gb data bundle at home.
Alternatively, I will order adsl from telkom.

I wonder if English is the 1st language of whoever is responding to emails at 123Net.

Doesn't really give off a good impression. That and the fact that the CEO is AWOL...

It's really hard to judge the company by the language used in the email.
But , right now I have sufficient data that indicates to me that I should "wait and see"

Do you know if they have been granted a Licence by icasa? Do they need a Licence to roll out a network?

Well they're operating in Durban so I assume they have all the necessary licences.

They're getting class licenses as they go along. Don't know what areas a class license can cover. Strictly a license isn't required to roll out a network and only to operate it but a lot of municipalities won't grant wayleaves without one and they aren't legally obliged to either.

I have seen a team trench and lay black plastic pipe from Porsche to Rivonia crossing on witkoppen road.
I'm hoping it Fibre that will serve the suburbs alongside witkoppen.

Anyone know who is laying the Fibre?

I have seen them laying the plastic pipes from Main road. I really hope this lands soon, having no Telkom infrastructure in the complex is really terrible. I think its Matrofibre who is laying the Fibre, but cannot be sure. I doubt it is 123net as they have not communicated anything to us for a long while. I am hoping it is Greencom because I have had only good feedback from my friends on their backbone!

I'ts shocking how many of these providers operate without a license. I guess when it's not enforced, there's not much incentive.

I have it under good authority that Metrofibre is laying fibre down Witkoppen. SO Greencom will use this fibre.

Who doesn't have a license? Contractors don't need a license to lay fibre, only the operators using it does. Afaik all of them have licenses.
