Fuel consumption

If it wasn’t that I was working from home, I would have sold it the week I bought it. It’s admittedly only heavy around town; on the open road it returns a decent 7-8l/100km @ 120 with the AC on. It’s a fairly heavy car so I think that counts against it when driving around town with lots of starting and stopping.

It’s got the Golf V GTi engine in so 147kW but with an extra 300 or so kilograms due to the longer chassis.

Is that a bakkie that you are towing with? I sometimes feel I may as well have gotten an RS4 with the consumption I’m getting but that would have likely been even worse:X3:

That's not too bad considering the oower on tap. It's a bakkie yes, scary how much fuel towing chows, drive 60 k's and it took 150 km out from the range to empty.

If I had 200kW then maybe I wouldn't complain but it's a bit thirsty for my liking.

The overseas forums reckon that amount of usage is normal, not what I expected TBH but it is what it is.

I did a fuel trim check and it returned a short term trim of 5.2% and long term of 1.2% which seems to be within the margin of error. I'll see if I can borrow a spare MAF sensor from the scrapyard and test it out and see if there is any difference.

Average trending slightly up again, which could be due to the last tank being 100% city driving.

Heading to the Southern Cape tomorrow for the weekend which should help figures a bit (not the wallet, though)

This was after filling up in PE and driving to Knysna, we filled up in Kurland en route back to PE. A bit better than town driving. This was sticking to the speed limits (mainly 120 with sections of 100, 80 and 60 between Plett and Knysna proper) and with the AC on.

Combination of that and a broken O2 sensor yeah.
I have bought a new O2 sensor... ffs R7k now to install it so will see how it behaves afterwards.
It is my daily driver
Big ups for using a Scooby as a daily, nothing like the sound of a turbo charged boxer, can hear it miles away!

oh and you can hear it from miles away , straight pipe for the win !!!!

Most recent long drive was JHB to Nelspruit. Average of 5.2l/100km at 120km/h while not really trying to save fuel. I average 6.6l/100km in town, including fast (legal) driving to respond to incidents, etc. This is with a Renault Sandero Stepway 0.9tce

Filled up to the first click, 70 liters. Other than getting stuck on the N2 between somerset west and sir Lowry's, and then doing sir lowry's pass all the way up in first gear due to traffic i hypermiled this tank as far as I could. It's now sitting on half, with me having done about 550 kilometers, showing a range to empty of 530. That last 100 km took out 200 from the range as that was sitting in heavy traffic and included an emergency trip to hospital with a family member.

Trying to see if I can push this tank to 1000km before I have to refuel. Not to bad for a big heavy vehicle.
