Is this right ... because seems a little too significant

Petrol price is R12.10 per litre and I travel 1,000km per month.
My car is 16 litres / 100km .... so that 160 litres in total
160 * 12.10 = R1,936.00

A new car is going to do 13 litres / 100km ... so that's 130 litres
130 * 12.10 = R1,573.00

That's R363.00 difference per month?

EDIT : I'm looking at a new car that'll cost another R1,400.00pm and I'm trying to see how to justify it to myself ;) So at 13l/100km it comes to a little over a net R1,000.00 ...

My car uses like 7/100km... what u driving, a 4x4?

I've got a Volvo T5

80% of my driving is in traffic - heavy start/stop traffic. There is no 'open road' or combined ... it's pure hellish traffic. In that I get 16 litres per 100km. On the odd occasion where I get combined or school holidays with little or normal traffic, I get 13 litres per 100km.

Open road (maybe once a year) I get under 9 litres per 100km - so the issue is traffic.

Should still be able to do better than that in traffic.... anything over 10l per 100km is crazy!

Not just traffic, Fourways traffic ... it's the worst kind!

Anyhow calculations correct? If I get something that does even 13 litres / 100km - I save almost R400.00? It's just significant!

1000 km's at 16l/100km = ( 1000 / (16/100) ) * 12.10 = 7.56 Rand per 100km = R756 per 1000km
1000 km's at 13l/100km = ( 1000 / (13/100) ) * 12.10 = 9.30 Rand per 100km = R930 per 1000km.

Please correct me if my math is wrong, I do around 1000km's a month on 15l per 100 km and it comes to about 800 bucks or so.
R1 900 can't be right.

Eish, I tend to forget the more expensive cars also have *** economy.. I'll always stay with my little car, with decent(but not the best) efficiency! One step closer to early retirement!

16 liters doesn't cost 7.56 rand, it costs 193 rand per 100km therefore 1930 for 1000km

this is the reason I leave for work at 5:50, No traffic, I am also fortunate enough to work flexi hours, so home time is 15:30, before the traffic :-)

... that sounds wrong?

Hah I'm starting to confuse myself - that's what I get, two tanks of gas in terms of distance gets me around 1000 - 1200 km's and never amounts to more than R900. I get 13-15km's per litre - got the wording wrong way around.

your math is correct...but its probably easiest to just say however many litres you save per 100km x 10 (1000km/100km) x fuel price
will be your saving per month.

my sister drives a polo bluemotion in Fourways traffic and gets 6l per 100. @that rate the saving is 10x10x12.10 = R1210.00 which is a third of the repayment per month.

If I did ever buy myself a new car it would be the blue motion....

Your calculations seem accurate. Why don't you get a D4 and almost halve that 13 L / 100 km figure?

KTM Duke 690:
2012-KTM-690-Duke.jpg
KTM Duke 690:
3.64l/100km or 27.5km/l
At R12.10/l, that gives 0.45c/km -> R450/1000km
And the best part, is no traffic issues.

@dj ... Two reasons : I still want something with a bit of grunt ... And I want another C30 R Design - which only come in T5

@abzo ... Kinda ... This is his EDWARD_VOLVO.png and this is mine 4515174283_3ec7038865_z.jpg Mines a sportier version of his

@ system ... Yea I need a car too though - plus I'd kill myself
