Full digital TV network now online

Been using DTTV for almost 2 yrs now.. DVB-T2 built into my sammy smart tv. Pretty stable the last few months where earlier every few months they'd change the channels & freq allocations. Picture is pretty stable these days too, no longer dropping for random periods and all this via an old school bunny indoor arial haha
 
Does anyone know how to receive SABC3? Are they broadcasting it?
I can only see SABC1, SABC2 and eTV at around 474Mhz:

Do you think they are trying something new again? First they did plain vanilla DVB-T2 then they started to use multiple PLPs per frequency which required me to do a driver update long ago.

Officially from today I can now receive a total of 0 channels :(

I strongly disagree. I have the exact same problem as of a day or two ago. Only e-tv...all other channels are gone. And I am not using a little dongle...tested two different STB...same result. While they claim that all digital transmitters have been turned on, they seem to have turned the transmissions off. :mad:

I had the exact same problem with a STB...and now everything is gone except for e-tv.

Ok, then it's not your dongle. You have a STD I mean STB problem...
If you can't see anything besides eTV, your STB probably doesn't support multi-plps. There are a whole lot of other channels broadcast in the second plp at the moment.

I see so many references to ppl referencing successful usage of the DTT channels....some help will be appreciated.

I have a DVB-T2 tuner in a windows machine. I tried several applications to scan for channels. Things I have tried:

1. upgrded my antenna to a modern VHF/UHF
2. changed polarization on antenna
3. from my home in Die Wilgers Pretoria I see a transmission tower towards Menlo park, so I assume I should use this tower
4. I used windows an linux before both cases the card works (Hauppauge wintv2205 card), but only with analogue signals
5. I tried the following manual configs at 570, 738 and 770 MHz which should be the used spectrum in Pretoria

Anything else? Can someone confirm a specific config in Pretoria that works?

Menlo Park only broadcasts at 40W power... I think you'd need to be pretty close. Try pointing the antenna at the Pretoria tower ( 25S41.21 27E59.02 ) which broadcasts at 70kW, channel 54 & 58 (UHF). Antenna polarisation is Horizontal.

But then again your driver and software needs to specifically say it supports multiple PLPs...
 
Can someone who has this working recommend a USB tuner. Technically I will be pirating the SABC signal since I will not be using a TV :twisted:

Regarding "pretty close"...I am 5.6km from the tower ...according to Google.
 
OK, took some time, but now it is working. I changed the antenna to an Ellies VHF digital ready antenna with a dedicated cable. The when I switched back to the original cable I learnt that the plug in the house had some electronics and with the plug the VHF signal was destroyed. Now I get the digital SABC channels and many radio channels. DVB-EPG is however empty.

Lol @ digital ready. It's the exact same shyt they've been selling for 30 years. You don't a special aerial for digital, just a decent one. And it remains to be seen how decent.
 
I agree with the digital ready is just a sales trick...they had a digital only version as well with some more advanced filers to take care of LTE interference once the re-farming took place, but that one was cancelled....I will still try my older combine VHF/UHF as well now that I know the plug box broke the UHF.

Now I just wish they can proceed and start to broadcast EPG info as well. I have to rely on xmltv methods for now, but my setup would be cleaner without the xmltv part.

...and all of this just for my wife that enjoys 3 Afrikaans shows on SABC2...
 
Hi All,

I am strugling again since the weekend...seem like DTT signal was intermittent in Pretoria and now I have no signal...

No obvious errors on the PC, but I am not sure if I have HW failure or another issue...
 
Bit of a necro post, and yeah, I know ... almost no-one cares (much less watches) SABC or eTV these days, but ... what are people's current experiences with DTT ?

Referring briefly to analogue terrestrial TV for a second : for the past few years I've been noticing that the quality of the Sentech analogue signals - including MNet - appears to have been declining steadily. I have a very good antenna setup and pretty good line-of-sight to the Menlo Park transmitter, but the signal quality really isn't great.
For that reason I've played around a bit with a DiviTech DTT STB which I had on trial for a while. Not with any great urgency, but also without much success, I might add.

Interesting. I had exactly the same experience. With the DiviTech STB I get periods of quite good reception (a few seconds at a time), then the picture breaks up and the cycle repeats.
Not sure if that's an infrastructure/transmitter problem or if I have a dud/incompatible STB.

Another interesting comment, Broadcom. I haven't tried the transmitter at that station (Gelukskroon).
I'd mentally dismissed the transmitter at Gelukskroon because it's so far away from me : 34km versus 4km (Menlo). Didn't realise the difference in ERP was so huge!

I've also looked briefly into GOtv - partly because that's probably where MNet will migrate to when (or is it if) the DTT mess gets sorted out.
I was interested to see that Gelukskroon is the transmitter recommended for GOtv reception in Pretoria. Menlo Park doesn't rate a mention.
