Fundamental problems with CDBs [Contract Data Bundles] & what you want changed

??? just got this sms on my dashboard....

"vodacom notification: you have been removed from the call limit locking system"

oh *** i don't even want to know what that means...

All new VSP contracts have a mandatory call limit of R2500 above standard subscription. If you've been a good boy this is automatically removed after 3 months and you're notified by SMS.

So this is what you saw.

Stopping 3G when Used Up

Reading through the preceding posts, and then also my own w.r.t. the problems of monitoring the usage for the user and now it even seems for Vodacom, I would like to find out the following:
1) Does Vodacom have a facility to automatically stop your account usage when your quota has been consumed? I can remember that they had something similar to this on voice.
2) If so, what do I have to do to activate this? :(
3) V3G - When will we have the simple "one click no ads, short-cutable" page to monitor our usage?

You could put a "softlock" on your data card, just like a phone and you will be suspended as soon as the system detect you've exceeded your cap.

The much-promised lightweight page is on it's way.

4u contract + Softlock + bundle = trouble???

Previous thread refers:
http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthread.php?t=48132

Short story:
1 - 4u contract (R0 subs) currently in its third month.
2 - 4u contract "softlocks" every month after certain limit (circa R200) is reached.
3 - Last month both vodacom call center and vodashop where I got everything told me this was a first two months only thing
4 - This month, softlock once more
5 - Decided to try loading bundle to get around softlock.
6 - Mission described in other thread
NOTE: Until this point a softlock essentially meant that I could connect, but only intermittently and often only GPRS. Off-peak times it was generally still ok, but I would get frequent disconnects etc. Almost like the softlock made me a "low priority" user.
7 - Finally, someone from Vodacom called me (BIG thanks to vodacom3g!) told me the soft lock was in fact for three months, and assisted me to add a bundle (this was late evening Sunday, 16 July if memory serves). Told me it would be activated within 4 or so hours and that she had pushed the limit on the softlock up by R5.00 to allow her to do this.
8 - Disconnected immediately (didn't want to break through that extra R5.00 limit before the bundle was active).

Problem A: Cannot connect AT ALL anymore. Since Monday morning (that's Monday, 17 July, the day after the bundle was supposedly loaded). As noted before, the previous softlocks never blocked me completely. Tried calling 155 (from the same SIM) and got a recording that "your cellular service has been suspended". The account is paid by debit order and the last debit order went through fine.

Problem B: I don't really care much for the connection (I can still connect (like now) using my MTN SIM. However, since the bundle has now been loaded, I suspect I'm going to be charged for it even though I haven't been able to use it at all. And if I understand correctly, bundles can't be carried over to the next month. So either my account needs to get reactivated so I can start using that bundle before monthend or the bundle has to be removed. I have tried doing this through vodacom4me.co.za, but get "There was a problem updating your VAS information. Please contact Vodacom Customer Care on 082 111 or try again later". Same thing that happened before the previous mission...

I'm also waiting for my 4U contract softlock to expire. Is it 90 calendar days from the day of signing up or, in my case, if I subscribed on the 27th of April must I wait till the 1st day of the 1st month after 90 days, i.e. 1 August?

I don't know. Good luck in trying to find out though...

The safe bet for anyone wanting to go this route, would actually be to get the 4u contract, stick the SIM in the top drawer of your desk, leave it there until the 3rd calendar month is gone, then take it out and use it. Wonder if that would actually work?

vodacom3g

I haven't had any contact yet. Do you know if someone from accounts/billing was going to contact me?

I tried calling 155 this morning again (from my MTN SIM of course) but couldn't get through.

I wouldn't do that, one of the conditions on the 4U contract is you must make a chargeable call within 90 days otherwise your contract is suspended.

Ok, gave up after half an hour. Cost of the call is probably going to be more than the bundle I'm buying...

This morning I was very impressed with customer care.
I called 111 and used the option that they call me back. Literally 20 seconds later my phone rang!
The consultant removed my softlock immediately. :)

Thanks vodacom3g, I did get a call. They said they can lift the softlock, but since it's the 28th (and I'm going away this weekend), I expect much of the bundle would be wasted, so I've asked them to transfer it to next month (it is as yet completely unused). However, this seems to be a bit of a problem, but they're looking into it and will get back to me.

Thanks for the help man, I wouldn't have had any joy on this without you.

Data Limit

Hi,

I set my data usage limit on the vodacom4me.co.za website.. I went and checked today and it is still active, yet it allowed me to go way over the limi I setup in the first place????? What the????????

Is there a way to set a limit so you cannot exceed it ? Do you do this on the vodaconnect software or on the vodacom4me.co.za site ?
