Fundamental problems with CDBs [Contract Data Bundles] & what you want changed

My Account > Call Limit.

It would be easier to understand if the limits on the 'call limit' page were in data instead of value. If I have a 500mb package, do I set the permanent temporary limit to R350? (I want the limit to be in place permanently)

Perhaps the limit is supposed to be set at R0.00 - As you already pay R350 for 500MB, no matter if you use it or not!

FireTelkom

so what is the consensus now? Set permanent limit at R0.00 if you don't want to spend a cent more than total invoice amount of R350?

So what now V3g? Have not heard anything from you guys, and I'm being billed for going over even though I set the limit?
nice.

Confusion reigns, according to the feedback I got, you cannot set a limit on-line. You must phone 155.

You should also get a disclaimer of some sort.

Let me try and set it on my own account and see what happens.

- IMO the page is a tad confusing...

Also saw it and confusing is an understatement!

I asked them to put an explanation on the page on what the various fields mean. I'll also post it here as soon as I get the info back.

It does seem to apply to data as well. The way I understand it, you can set a minimum limit of R50 rand OVER and ABOVE your normal contract, i.e. it should cut you at R50 into OOB.

I'll be cautious with this, taking into account the 3 hours delay that can easily translate into more than R50.

Treat this whole thing with caution till I get more clarity.

Hi,

I set my data usage limit on the vodacom4me.co.za website.. I went and checked today and it is still active, yet it allowed me to go way over the limi I setup in the first place????? What the????????

Won't you PM me the data number in question? I want them to trace it and see what happened here.

I've set my limit to R0.00 and I received an sms the following day saying that I have been added to the Call Limit System... Don't know if this means anything, or what I've accomplished...

Don't trust anything till I've got this sorted.... :( But let me have your feedback.

The way I understood this, is that you must first sign the standard call limiting disclaimer.

Does the Call Limit thing on v4me apply to data as well, and can one call 155 to have a data limit activated? - I don't trust v4me after my Ad-hoc HSDPA wasn't added via v4me...

In theory, yes. But let's pick this up on e-mail and get it sorted.

Vodacom3G, I am a NashuaMobile Client, and I have set a Call Limit on my phone, everytime I reach that limit it suspends my account, fine... thats what I want, but is there no way to still allow free sms/free minute usage.

If you can cut someone on prepaid immediatly when you hit R0.00, why cant Vodacom do the same with free minutes/sms's etc?

Prepaid is billed as you call by an interactive platform (IN) which "monitors" the call i.e. the switch/MSC get permission to route the call and hold the call from the IN platform. It is also possible to route a call without interogating IN there by allowing free calls even when the balance is R0.00

On contract the billing tickets are post-processed by billing systems and as a result the MSC which processes your call does not know your account balance or the tariff for the call but merely created a billing ticket with call the call information. Therefore to prevent calls on contract when you reach your call limit you subscription (HLR) is updated by the billing system to block outgoing calls (including free ones).

A solution would be to create all subscribers as "prepaid" but post-bill contract subscriber but that would involve a costly investment in IN platforms/signalling infrastructure and limiting the contract subscribers to prepaid level of service (although these days prepaid can do almost eveything but full roaming).

If additional bar types where available in the MSC you would be able to possibly allow free calls (outgoing bar can differentiate between national and international calls already) but you would still have a problem with bundles minutes/sms.

'Real-time' billing for all subscriber types is (and will be) the ultimate solution.
