I'm looking to upgrade soon and have been looking at these two phones. Which one do you guys think is the best? Also I've been trying to get info about the availability of the Ace 2 in SA, but nobody seems to know whether/when this phone will get to SA. Can anybody shed some light on this...

The Ace 2 is much better.

It has 256MB RAM more than the One V and instead of a single-core 1Ghz CPU, it has a dual-core 800Mhz CPU and Mali 400MP GPU (exactly the same as Galaxy S2), compared to the old Adreno 205 of the One V.

The battery indurance rating of the One V is 31 hours, while the Ace 2 manages 43 hours (dual-core and better GPU much more efficient on the Ace 2)

Here is an online comparison between the Ace 2 and One V : http://www.gsmarena.com/compare.php3?idPhone1=4559&idPhone2=4575#results

If you can accept a slightly smaller screen, maybe consider a Sony Xperia U?

Only 4GB storage & non-upgradable on the Xperia U. Might be nice now, but let's see in a month's time when you want to copy a few music albums, pics or a movie.

I honestly don't know what Sony was thinking when they released this phone without a SD card slot.

@kingrob - pity everybody is mum on availability though... Vodacom said they have no info on Ace 2 but are busy testing Ace Plus...

@lcbxx - will have a look at it thanks...

The funny thing is....the Galaxy Ace 2 will most probably become the best selling phone of 2012 & Vodacom does not even know about it.

Just a big LOL.

*Might get it faster from a Samsung shop, or www.expansys.co.za , but I reckon 8ta and CellC will get it soon.

As a matter of interest - CellC told me that they would have the Ace 2 in 2-3 weeks time.

Not at all - but with their new contracts they don't subsidize the device anymore, which makes it kind of expensive. It might not be a bad idea to buy it from expansys and get a contract from Cell C. Vodacom will subsidize the handset but have extortionate OOB rates...

i will vote the one v, might be lower specced etc, but it is still decent specced for the price , I am liking htc sense more then touchwiz , had a normal galaxy ace before i had the one v.

And nice that it came out with ICS, no need root and custom rom to run ics.

cpu can be overclocked on the one v to over 1.5ghz if needed , keeping mine stock , will overclock if i need more juice :P

One V IMO as well. It's just a slicker phone all-round

You can't actually compare the One V with the Ace 2, the One V is nowhere near the spec sheet of the Ace 2.

The One V only has a single core 1Ghz CPU and 512MB RAM, while the Ace 2 is a dual-core 800Mhz CPU phone with 768MB RAM.

The big difference is in the GPUs, where the One V still sports the old Andreno 205 GPU, while the Ace 2 has the same GPU as the Galaxy S2.

No, seriously, there is NO comparison between the One V and the Ace 2, the One V has old and outdated specs.
