Firstly i do KLWP theming.
(+-3 years now.)
I subcribe to +- 22 beta programs via Google Play.
I installed a beta KLWP via their G+ site,
and that same beta version, by accident
was again installed from Play
Store (my slip up)
Lastly, i did not do an software update, but had to flash stock Rom to get out of
bootloop (soft brick)
Thus i flashed a multi CSC firmware, XFE...... etc.
The Note 8 is not the type of phone I'll use for Testing Beta Apps.

I have been beta testing for years.
Note 2..Note 3, Note 4, Note 5
why not Note 8.?
I feel it's my contribution
to the Android community and devs.!
Generally beta is fine. reasonable
stable.
I will not test Alpha apps.

How did that brick your phone? And how would a software update have prevented that?
The same beta version were from different
sources. One directly from the dev site.
The other was a Play store beta version.
(slightly different)

I still don't get the problem. And I still don't get how a software update would've prevented that?

Fanie,
Sorry, but you misunderstood (my post.)
I did not do an software update, for the sake of an update.
I merely flashed XFE to get out of bootloop.
My point, was that flashing CSCwith XFE, is a waste of time.!

Ok sorry, I'm obviously confused. I was originally replying to Tsepz about people who worry about software updates in general, not your specific case... as you were ;)

Anyone willing to trade a XFA (FNB bought) Note 8 Black for equivalent XFV (Vodacom)?

I need WiFi Calling on Vodacom, but can only get it if you use a Vodacom supplied phone.

Flashing XFV does not help.

:(

I have full Vodacom functionality on an original XFA device flashed to XFV.
Make sure you have used the correct CSC file (CSC_OVF...... and not HOME_CS_OFV....)
Note that this will factory reset your device.

Check Settings / About Phone / Software Information. If the last line of the Service provder SW ver section reads "XFV/XFV/XFA", you should be good.

If still no VOLTE or WiFi calling, make sure VC has provisioned this on your profile.

With my S7 Edge I tried everything, including going to Samsung service centre.
They confirmed (after phoning around) that it will not work.
Not sure how you got this right.

I will PM you.

To make things worse, my Note 8 is now locked somehow.
Can log into it and add everything, but gives processing error when logging into Samsung account.
Also does not connect to the mobile network.

This was after doing a factory reset.
It gave some error message that I need to validate the phone.

Samsung phone support said I need to take it to Samsung in Clearwater.
Just hope they can help.

I flashed again with the OXM / XFE firmware and it fixed the issue.
Not sure how I borked it before.

Wanted to follow @simp 's process, but it does not allow me to flash the XFV firmware as it is seen as a downgrade.
The XFE firmware is the latest.

Need to wait for the XFV firmware to be updated before I can try this again.

What firmware version does XFE have that is more recent than XFV?

Just updated mine to the latest XFE version.

Worth it for me to get the latest security from both Google and Samsung.
