Galaxy Note 8

Wonder how long we going to wait for the Oreo update to come from Vodacom. I know i can flash it already, but not in the mood...

starting to get dissapointed, if only another manufacturer would make a phone with a stylus...

first the screen burn in, now it restarts randomly when it gets wet (yes i catch up on my youtube subs in the shower)
and bixby can never have consistent performance in terms of how it understands what you want. ie i used to say "turn on mobile hotspot" then it would automatically turn off wifi and turn on hotspot, boom, done.

now all of a sudden bixby replies with ok, first we must turn off wifi, then i say bixby turn off wifi and only them i can ask for the hotspot wtf

I would never take an expensive electronic device near or in water. Can't blame Samsung for it getting faulty, they don't advertise that it's waterproof. Water and steam. The steam can get in where water can't...

You and I, same WhatsApp Group

I have so much data in my phone, I am so not in the mood to flash and have to restore and go through the resetup.

I have an XFA FW sitting in my laptop as we speak, but nah fam, no way I am flashing unless it's REALLY necessary.

The only thing I want is the latest Security Update, that's it, I don't care for Oreo, I just want the Meltdown and Spectre crap sorted, otherwise I am happy, the phone works perfectly for me.

but ip68?

but ip68?
A lot of people went through this with the S7 Edge I remember at Android Central and even here someonw had it happen to them where the water got in. However that was due to them putting the phone under a tap that was at high pressure, as what happens is that the weak pint for these phones is the speaker, which uses a mesh, that repells water but unfortunately can only withstand so much pressure before allowing water in.

Was your N8 ever under a high pressure tap?

I don't know about steam, but my and larger constant volumes of it may have an impact, I have no idea though TBH.

from reading up on IP68 rating ,i get a general def of ....

"Devices backed by an international standard rating of IP68 are deemed fit enough to withstand dust, dirt and sand, and are resistant to submersion up to a maximum depth of 1.5m underwater for up to thirty minutes."

Nothing that it can withstand steam ,salt water ( sea water )... etc
so basic it only there if you get caught in the rain or drop phone in water etc .
example ....Samsung seems very vague on the issue ...maybe for a good reason ?

Totally underwhelmed by Oreo on the Huawei mate 10 pro and Mate 9 that we have in the family. Ontye Mate 9 slight improvement at interface but probably more due to Hauwei interface than Oreo. Vodacom can take their sweet time with this update. Nougat rules my Note 8

I see a lot of people being "underwhelmed"... which is strange for me... I mean, if you were so excited about it, surely you know which features it brings, and what changes to expect. Being underwhelmed just means you didn't do your homework, and just expected your phone to me transformed into a brand new handset.

I get the feeling voldoverse abuses his device and then cries foul.

Use Google Assistant rather?

You need to load another app, with a companion desktop app, and then authorise it while plugged into the phone... after that, same thing.
That doesn't sound like fun. I'm assuming I'll have to pay for the other app too?

easy there tiger, i dont abuse my phone and cry foul. Climb off that high horse and lets stroll down the list shall we?

Bixby issues - Definately software related, the way it chooses to understand me has nothing to do with abuse

Screen Burn in - Occured on its own, i dont navigate for longer than an hour at a time with my phone, so the fact that i got burn in from normal usage is not acceptable

Restart issue - discovered the shower occurence was not the water, the issue was with the youtube app in the end. i figured if a phone can handle water pressure at 1.5 meters then a little steam and water spots wont affect it, and it hasnt so theres that. ive seen IP68 rated phones endure much worse water abuse anyways before so not stressed about that.

i purchased the most expensive screen protector and case money could buy for my note 8 and i in fact actually baby it otherwise because its an expensive piece of kit.
